About
Castlegar Sculpturewalk is an annual exhibition of outdoor sculptures, located on a pleasant walking tour in downtown Castlegar. Viewers are encouraged to vote for their favourite sculpture via ballot - the winner of the People's Choice award is purchased by the City for the permanent collections. All of the artworks are available for sale or lease. Ballots/maps are located in red ballot boxes along the route (the start of the route is at the Kootenay Market (635 Columbia Avenue), though you can begin the walk from anywhere. Ballots/maps are also available at the Castlegar Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, or the Kootenay Gallery.

We didn't do the actual walk but because we had researched it a bit we had fun finding the sculptures as we drove. Definitely a great travelling activity. Plus the art is amazing!

Did this self-guided search-and-find sculpture walk with the help of the map downloaded from related website. Did it about 5pm so it was not too hot and the streets were quiet. Got to see about 80% of all sculptures which are all beautiful and inspiring. Apparently could vote for your favourite sculpture so the winner will be chosen as a permanent display in Castlegar. Love this walk just before going to restaurant in the area for dinner.

Well worth a walk through town. A unique approach to public art that marries peoples choice with local, national and international art.

Whoever came up with this idea is brilliant! The Sculpture walk is such a fun way to look at art and have a walk around the town of Castlegar at the same time. We enjoyed seeing past sculpture walk winners along our route as well as the choices for this year. We interacted with other families looking at the sculptures as well as some towns folk and enjoyed our conversations along the way.

The sculpture walk is a nice thing to do to get you walking around downtown Castlegar - there are red bins here and there that contain maps so that you can find all the sculptures as well as explaining a bit about each one and the artist. Apparently, they do new ones each year so it is always changing, and they vote on their favourites and then move those to permanent sites - so if you’ve been before, there will be new ones to see each year. We enjoyed seeking them out and reading about them, and some of the sculptures were quite powerful and beautiful. I wouldn’t take a trip to Castlegar just to see the Sculpture Walk, but I’d definitely make time for it if you’re coming here.
