Wonderful hiking/ walking trails through old growth forest right down to the Campbell River and also to a suspension bridge overlooking Elk Falls. Go early and take the time to do all the trails. Make sure to stop at the small museum for information and the story of the John Hart power station. We met a friendly informative volunteer there who gave us a short history- just the right amount of information! Thanks.

Besides the fantastic sea walk and amazing beach access all along the coast of the city of Campbell River, the Elk Falls Provincial Park featuring the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, is also a must see and do. Starting off there is plenty of parking and the trail leading to the bridge has spectacular views of Elk Falls. The trail in itself is an easy walk and there are plenty of benches along the way to stop, rest and take in all the sites and sounds of this beautiful forest. At the end, there are approx 70 stairs, but take your time and once there the effort was well worth it.

The hike is easy and waterfall view from the suspension bridge is well worth the time. Highly recommend doing this. If you are using Google maps to navigate, look up BC Hydro info kiosk to guide you to the parking lot.

It is a little confusing to find. It is west of the city but you will come to Elks Falls Provincial Park first. One would assume that the falls are in the park. Not so! One must travel further up hill and turn right into a parking area. The trail down is about a kilometer and has some steep sections and many stairs to get down to the bridge. The veiw of the falls from the suspension bridge is nice but it is hard to take pictures because of a high wire fence along the bridge. One could easily lose an iPhone there but I had a DSLR with a strap around my neck. Fortunately there is a vewing platform further down with a great view of the falls head on. The climb back up is strenuous but fortunately there are several benches where one can rest.

this was a great experience even though i am bothered by heights this is a very safe bridge with high steel sides. the feeling of swaying is definably there and scary for me some people could not cross. I made it there and back but i probably would not do it again i dont like the adrenaline rush LOL the hike to get here is considered easy but i found the incline and decline of the trail especially the stairs down to the bridge difficult i am in my 60s and was very winded after

Absolutely serene shaded forest path to gorgeous waterfall! Plus the thrill of a suspension bridge! Only downside was that 2/3 of the way thru our visit an incredibly blaring, loud siren came on that lasted about 10 minutes. If completely shattered the tranquility. In order to do this hike one must be able to walk down a gently sloped unpaved path and then many steep gripstrut stairs. The suspension bridge is optional (but very fun ). Note - many people had dogs and they did not like the gripstrut stairs.

A beautiful walk along an accessible trail. There is a place to stop and view the Falls that has an accessible view with lowered railing.
When the trail leads down to the Suspension Bridge, it is no longer accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. But there is a bench for people to wait and room for a wheelchair/stroller to wait.

Stairs to Suspension bridge can be slippery, hold railing.
Suspension Bridge is safe to walk and has high caged sides.

Please listen to signs and stay on trails and be safe. We saw people standing at the top of the waterfall! One bad step you they would go down 25meter falls! So dangerous!

Initially thought we were walking straight to a suspension bridge from the parking lot, however discovered that we needed to travel along a trail that declined to it for 10-15 mins. The trail involved some stairs and naturally an incline on the way back. Trail wasn’t hard to do for a healthy person. The suspension bridge offers a view of elk falls, but there are many other trails that you can take. I believe moose falls and deer falls are also accessible from the same parking lot via different and longer trails.

Easy hike to the suspension bridge for both adults and kids and you can snack/rest at the other end. You can bring your dog with you, but if they are scared of grated metal walkways that you can see the bottom, you'll end up carrying them or not crossing the suspension bridge at all. There are other trails you can explore as well to enjoy different angles of the falls.

The approach walk to the falls and suspension bridge is via a gravel path through a beautiful natural wood. The only way to get to the falls viewing platform or the suspension bridge is via a series of stairs.

The stairs do have solid handrails but the steps are an open checker-plate style so you can see right down the cliff face below you. We saw an owner having to carry their dog as the design isn't suitable for a dog's paws.

Being afraid of heights, I wasn't too keen on visiting the park but I'm really glad I went as there is an 'easier' option than the suspension bridge for those who prefer solid ground beneath their feet as I do.

The view from both the viewing platform and the the suspension bridge are equally impressive and my husband said the suspension bridge was very stable (he's not afraid of heights).

This was a nice walk and sight-seeing trip and although we only spent an hour or two there, you could easily turn it into a longer day if you wanted to spend some time accessing the falls from the opposite side where the water becomes accessible.
