We went with West Coast Grizzly Bear Tours on a tour to see grizzlys in the wild fishing for salmon. Depature was at the pier in the morning. Going on the boat we saw dolphins, whales, seals and a bold eagle. Then we got lunch which was very fresh and fantastic - never expected such good food on this trip. After that we went with a bus to platforms to watch grizzlys. Our driver did everthing to show us as many grizzlys as possible - in the end we saw 8 and one mother with her child. Our driver gave us all the time we needed, we never felt rushed or out of time. On the boat trip back we even saw some orcas and arrived back at the pier after sunset. This trip is not cheap but we had an amazing day which we will never forget. We can highly recommend to go with West Coast Grizzly Bear Tours.

We’ve had the most amazing trip with Dave, our guide who drove the boat and bus. The full package and while doing so, he was really focused to spot some whales or other interesting things. Along the way we saw humpbacks and Dave stopped the engines to let us (small group of 5) take pictures and just observe. He also showed us some ancient symbols that had been painted on the edge of a rock which dates back over a 100 years. He also told us that he personally takes a month off in November to take his boat to the same spots that we went to, all by himself. He is one the most friendly and down to earth person we’ve met, while also being highly educated about the bears and the surroundings. We saw 3 grizzlies going about their business and it was a blast. See you again Dave, all the best and enjoy your well deserved month off ✌🏻
Also, Gloria our First Nations Guide was really friendly and very helpful spotting bears.
All in all, a very pleasant experience!

Everything as advertised and more. Wonderful scenery, terrific wildlife - on land and sea.
Wayne our driver/ guide for the day did a great job and nothing was too much trouble. He took the time to point out sealife and circle around so we could take photos.
The bears were magnificent and great to see them in their natural habitat
I would highly recommend this tour.

I took this tour last sunday, it was such as amazing experience to watch wild life in their own space without interrupting their normal lives.. Loved it!
We could watch on the way up to the reserve many playful orcas and also humpbacks showing their stunning tails when diving to feed themselves. Our guide Dominik, took the time not to only for us to watch them but also to tell us more about these magnificent mammals. Then, we had a yummy lunch in a beautiful area wich gave us the chance to watch a bear family hanging around <3
Once there (I know, we weren't even there and we had so much to see already), we met the guide from Toba who brought us to the place were we could safely watch grissly bears fishing salmon and hanging around. Cute baby bears were my favorite! Also, this place is absolutely enchanting, peaceful forest nature, and the water color turquoise gave us the sensation (not only me) that this place was sacred and unique.
Afterwards, on our way back - we thought that was it for the day but Dominik surprised us with a fresh stop besides to a beautiful waterfall and then.. he brought us were many humpbacks were diving... We all came back with a big smile in our faces!
Thanks to everyone who made this tour possible. I totally recommend it and I'd do it again for sure!

This was an amazing experience and one I would highly recommend. Every member of staff is fully vested in making this a memorable experience. They are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating as they guide you through an environment that is remote and incredibly beautiful. The lunch was delicious and fulsome. And the wildlife … wow!! Bears, whales, seals! We respectfully watched them in their own environment and never felt rushed. The guides went out of their way to ensure we had great views and lots of time. Thank you West Coast Grizzly Bear Tours!

Well worth the time spent on the boat as the bears made it the experience of a life time. It was a long day but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Absolutely amazing opportunity. The trip out in the boat was great, good views of humpback, harbour seal and harbour porpoise which the driver (Wayne) stopped to let us watch. Although the boat had a cabin with plenty of windows we spent a fair amount of time on deck (especially on the way home) although it was cold. We stopped at about 12.30 for lunch (plenty of food including very tasty wraps) in a bay they had seen grizzlies but no luck today although the scenery was stunning. Got to the harbour at 1pm and met with our local guide (Buck). The local guides are shared across the different boat companies. We felt the guide could have provided a bit more information on the history of the area/community and the wildlife. Even so it gave us the opportunity to safely observe bears without disturbing them from 3 out of their six viewing platforms... Moving up and down in a bus to see the bears. We saw amazing views of three males and a mother and cub including plenty of behavior (obviously mostly around catching the chum salmon in the river). Amazing views from the platforms!! What surprised us was the lack of scavengers... There were a few vultures about and some gulls as well as a sandpiper and kingsfisher but nothing went to the half eaten fish (we decided that they probably cleaned up after dark when the bears left). Such a great opportunity and a life dream come true.
The way home was beautiful with the afternoon sun starting to set and amazing views of more humpback. Wayne even went out of his way to find us great views of the whales.
We got back at 7, later than expected but we certainly appreciated that they extended the day that much as there were so much to see.

Night and Day different from the others. We went on two different Grizzily Tours back to back on different days with two different providers from Campbell Rivers. Way West were indeed Way Better than the other activity provider.
1. The group was smaller
2. David/ Dave the Captain of the vessel was friendly, punctual, chatty (not jaded from a seasons work like the others), looked after us all, searched for wildlife on the way out and the way back to viewing the grizzilies. Didn't waste time (the others had a 'if your late we won't wait' policy which is fair enough, but then all of their customers were left waiting for their staff to finish their morning coffees.
3. Boat totally enclosed, with space outside for all when viewing sea based animals
4. Great packed lunch
5. David went out looking for bears while Buck, the first nations guide drove us around to the various watchtowers looking for bears. Therefore we had two sets of eyes out scouting for bears for us
6. Everything was clear, what was happening, when, why, how long
On both tours we had plenty of Grizzily Bear opportunities. We saw bear catching fish, we saw cubs, we saw territorial confrontations (all posturing, nothing happened). Amazing photo opportunities. This tour had just a lovely vibe, from the lovely lady at the office down on the jetty, to David and his friendly nature and Buck's gentle shooting the breeze with us. We didn't feel like we were just another group. And we really appreciated that. For us it was a once (or ok, twice) in a life time experience. We didn't expect to get so lucky in seeing so many Grizzilies. With the other operator we saw 20 bears and with Way West we saw 8 Grizzilies but we would go out with Way West again if we had the chance as it was such a more professional operation.
We also saw seals, humpback whales, harbour porpoise, bald eagle and as we were nearly back at the dock, Orca going along the shores of Campbell River (wow!)
Well done Folks for not loosing your spirit at the end of the tourist season for giving us both such a special day.

Had a great day with West Coast Tours. Seeing the bears at what I consider a fairly close distance was exciting and yet felt quite safe. We had some great photo opportunities and got to watch the the bears go about their day by the river as they caught and ate salmon. The river itself was beautiful.
The driver and guide were very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed hearing about the history of the land and the Klahoose First Nations.
Seeing the sea lions and whales on the boat ride over and back were a bonus! I appreciated the extra time taken to enjoy that part of the trip too.

We had on 19.09. 2021 booked the Grizzly Tour. After a nice boat tour, we arrived at our destination and another guide drove us to the places where you should see the bears. Unfortunately it was very frustrating at first because we couldn't see anything. We changed the observation towers several times, and then we saw a bear in the distance. It's just the wilderness, you can't pre-book anything. But Dave and his coworker didn't give up, they really wanted to help us have a nice experience. The time to leave had actually already come and then finally, we were able to watch a full-grown grizzly hunting and eating from close by. It was very fascinating and we were very grateful to Dave and the other guide for their patience. You really tried to give us a great tour, thanks again for that.

Hi there,
Thank you for your review, we really appreciate your understanding when it comes to wild animal viewing, unfortunately it is a bit unpredictable, as they are wild in their natural habitats.
We are so glad that it worked out well for you at the end of your tour and that you got to see these incredible creatures up close! We will pass along your compliments to Dave.
Thanks again for joining us!
