HUGE expansive area - a bit out of the way from Drumheller, but worth the drive to view the badlands. Looks like the area is under expansion with new steps, picnic tables etc. Makes for a nice spot to view nature.

A must stop if you are in this area. The scenery is so different. You can stop and see the view from up top the hill or you can do hiking inside the Horseshoe shaped canyon. There is lots of parking and bathrooms. Its a...More

Such a wonderful place in Alberta. Although it's similar to Horseshoe Canyon at the other side of Drumheller but it has Red Deer River beside it which gave it a different taste(!) when you hike in it. It took 01:15 from the top to the...More

Great spot for an overview of the Red Deer River valley and badlands topography. It's well signed, but watch the sharp turnoff from the main road. Wonderful for pictures, but watch the cliff/hill edge - particularly if you have children. Recommended.

We stopped on our way back from Drumheller. Was an awesome view. We didn't walk the trails as it was far too hot.

Absolutely awesome views. Gopher colony. Great walking trails. Great place to see and photograph the "badlands."

Horsethief canyon, spectacular views over the badlands, you can hike here but ensure that you're adequately equipped as this area can be extremely hot and humid in the hot season!

It's absolutely one of the most spectacular views you'll ever find. My wife and I frequently go out there late at night to look at the stars. The air is so clear you think you're on top of the world. It's definitely worth... More

I think that if you and hubby are in good shape and confident hikers, you could do this with the kids in carriers. I first took my daughter who is now 16, when she was 4. We just hiked down the first part and back up again... More
