You just come by and have to wait. When we arrived there, they said that the next group will enter after 15min and a group of 12 people may enter. We were part of the last people to arrive (10th-12th).
Then, the first 10 people entered and they said to us that depending on the capacity of the next group, maybe we can enter after 30min if the group is less than 10. But if not, we have to wait for 1h30 for the next visit!!!
So you understand that 's why it's doesn't worth it to come by and wait if there is no fixed schedule at all.
Don't waste your time. It's just depending on their mood.
The worst thing happened after that's why we decided to leave: everybody else left when we heard the 1h30 waiting time..so we were the only ones who stayed. Ho w stupid we were to think that he will tell us to enter afterwards... The old men just went outside the magasin general and just look at us without a word and went for a cigarette. We were waiting for almost 30min, again.

So, we decided to leave after all.
Just FYI, there is some other magasins like that to visit, so maybe take your chance in more organized ways! Especially in vacation.

Hello, Thank you for your comment. Sanitary restrictions with social distancing reduce our ability to accommodate many 60 people to 24 (2 groups of 12 people). I don't know how many of you there were, but he must have had too many people in there to be able to let you all in together. There is no visit schedule since our animated guided tour is continuous. We join you for the current visit and when the animation repeats you have taken the tour. On the other hand, our animated guided theatrical visit is given in French. If you cannot understand French, it was possible for you to request a free visit. The person who greets people outside offers this alternative when they see that the customers are English speaking. We are very sorry for your waiting time outside, we are the first sorry to not be able to receive so many people at the same time. We look forward to providing you with the experience of the Authentic Historical General Store during your next stay in our magnificent region.

The door was opened by a very sour faced woman. I apologised for my lack of French. She told me "Only French" and closed the door on me!! The only time we had been rude to in this quaint little town. This happened today. Sept 22.

Hello We are sorry to hear that you have been poorly received at our General Store. The lady who received you does not speak English, so she was inconvenienced by your arrival. This in no way excuses his unprofessional attitude and we apologize for it. We will fix this problem as soon as possible. We offer an animated guided tour in French, but it is possible for English-speaking people to take a self-guided tour of our establishment. We hope to see you again and wish you can come and visit our beautiful store with its treasures from the thirties. Sorry again for this unpleasant experience

It is simply astonishing to see how a few creative minds can bring an unassuming museum to life. When you step through the doors of this nicely restored General Store, you enter a different world, a world of history and entertainment. The descendants of the former owners not only know how to weave interesting, funny and charming stories with an immense collection of antiques as a background, but they do it with panache. Dressed in last-century costumes, their dialogues and anecdotes immerse you in the lives of early settlers and give you a taste of what it was like to live in times when Charles Robin, a rapacious merchant from the Channel Island of Jersey, dominated the Gaspé region, politically, economically and socially.

The performance is continuous and organized in such a way that there is practically no wait. You simply join the group at any one of five stations during the rotating presentation and leave when you will have returned to that same station. Clever. To sum it up in just a few words; a visit to the Gaspé peninsula is not really complete without stopping here to get an idea and an understanding of the contribution and hardships of those who came before us.

Allow 1 1/2 hours for the visit.

Open the door and step back to 1928. A large general store well stocked with products of the early 20th century plus all the office equipment and a barbershop. $12 for a tour or $8 self guided. Helps understand history of region. Watch for it.

We had no idea what we were getting into. The store from 1828 was quite authentic, just as in those days. Our hosts were also dressed for the occasion, in typical 1928 clothing!

The whole experience was presented as different skits, that were informative and funny at the same time. We had a good laugh. It took us about 1 1/2 hours for the whole presentation and we wished it could have lasted longer! Naturally it was done in French.

What an amazing place. The staff were were exceptional in helping me with my lack of French. They handed me an English booklet explaining about everything. Could have spent hours there. What a tribute to times gone by. A sentimental journey for all. Thank you. Such a satisfying experience. Would highly recommend for all ages.

Built in 1928 to replace the original general store from late 1700 / early 1800's, Charles the owner is amazing teller of historical stories of the Candler and Perce area. Fluently bilingual, the fact he is the son of the final operating owner gives him a local background second to none.
The stories he tells are based upon a lifetime of living and operating in the area.
Don't miss this.

The tour was only available in French so we paid the lower fee for the self guided tour. However, the owner (son of the last actual store owner) came and spent time with my husband and I and explained a number of the artifacts. You can really get a sense of the passion he has with preserving this part of the Gaspe and Quebec heritage.

As I speak French, I could hear and understand the French tour that was going on as my husband and I were walking around and the guide was superb.

Worth the admission fee a thousand time over
