Carey Newman is an extremely talented artist in several mediums. His carvings are magnificent -- he is a master carver. The family has a very, very sweet energy. Sadly, they are closing the gallery, so if you have been intending to visit it, do it soon! Though, Carey can always be reached by phone or at his workshop near Sidney. It is an honor to have met Carey and his family and a gift to own some of his art.

We have known the Newman family for many years, and are fortunate to own pieces by Victor, Edith and Carey. The Blue Raven Gallery has examples of all of their works, and is a wonderful stop for lovers of First Nations art.

Carey Newman is a brilliant First Nations artist. What a shame no one on TripAdvisor has ever stopped by his Blue Raven Gallery in Sooke. But located about 30 minutes from Victoria his creations in mixed media are stunning. Right up there with another Vancouver Island artist, the late, Norval Morrisseau. Certainly worth a visit. I hope to meet him one day soon.
