We just finished going on a kayaking tour with Kayak Rush Adventures based in Sooke, B.C., Canada, with their tour guide “Tanner”.
Our party consisted of 5 people, all of us with little and no experience in kayaking, ages 15 to 74.
Kayak Rush Adventure’s expertise, skill set, equipment, orientation presentation and knowledge exceeded our expectations. With all this… and their relaxed and friendliness attitude… our group felt safe and comfortable on the local waters around Sooke Basin.
Upon entry into the water, our youngest member tipped over into the water with his kayak. With the immediate assistance of their “ground crew”, our son was pulled out of the water, dried off, donned dry clothing, and placed into a double kayak with our tour guide.
Safety is their number one priority!
Everyone was extremely pleased with our entire tour and highly recommended.

We just happened to pass through Sook and noticed Rush Adventures . We booked a two man Kayak and after a thorough and excellent safety breach, we paddled off across a most spectacular lake. The views were heavenly. Rush Adventures are worth a visit and are well priced

Super friendly and helpful. We stopped in without a reservation and Aaron was able to accommodate us anyway. My son is Autistic so requires extra help but he loves to Kayak. Aaron was quick to assist him and modified his communication style to suit my son's abilities. So gratifying to not have to explain the issue in order to get extra consideration.
Got good instruction on technique so recommend for beginners.

Very pleasant wee jaunt around the cove in a two man kayak with my son. Reasonably priced, minimum fuss, no booking required, we just walked up, and were set up and sailing within ten minutes. Even saw a seal who popped up to say hello close to our vessel!

Tanner and Erin were great hosts. Very professional with getting us ready to get on the water. Tanner was a very knowledgeable guide and was great to have lead us around the basin. Equipment was good and the dry entry into the water was fantastic!

We reserved a double kayak for a two hour paddle. When we arrived a 16-year old worker greeted us, and eventually set us on our way. Brian is a very sweet kid, but he's still a kid. As such I think that he has yet to learn the skills necessary to adequately deal with folks who have little or no experience kayaking. We witnessed this when we returned to the dock after or paddle. Two obviously novices were getting launched in a double. Rush will only rent doubles to folks who have not yet demonstrated their ability to make a wet exit from the boat because doubles are more stable and thus less likely to capsize. The couple appeared to be a mother and daughter, and the daughter sat in the rear cockpit which has the steering controls, a dubious arrangement in my book. Their paddling was uncoordinated, and we had to encourage Brian to holler instructions to the from the dock.
Rush rents closed cockpit kayaks and require that paddlers have the spray skirts fully in place. Unfortunately, the skirt fits very tightly, so the toggle one has to pull to release the skirt and allow a wet exit from a capsized boat was VERY difficult to pull. To my mind this represents an unnecessary danger.
We enjoyed our two hours on the water more for the pleasure of gliding on the water than for the quality of the sights we encountered. Perhaps if we had gone left from the inlet rather than right we would have found more interesting waters.

My father and I booked a full day kayak trip and were surprised that we were the only ones booked for that day (private tour anyone??). Even though our numbers were few, our enthusiastic guide, Aaron, was a delight keeping us entertained with a stream of information of the area, conscientious guiding practices, and attention to our safety and paddling techniques. He filled every minute with adventure, love for the area, and even took us to spots to see our favourite locals - the harbour seals! Lunch out at Whiffen Spit was delicious and is was incredible to chow down in such a beautiful area. Thank you for the excellent time!
If you are not a fan of tandem kayaks perhaps this is not the tour for you. However, even with our preferences for solo vessels, we understand it’s all in our best interests where safety is concerned and the tour was awesome anyways!

My husband and I booked a three hour tour as first time kayakers. Our tour guide was Aaron who was knowledgeable, safety concious, and all round great guy. We started out well with a father and son also joining us, these two kept venturing off on their own despite kind requests to stay with us. We were doing well when our boat flipped. With Aaron's guidance and patience we both got back in the boat. While we were trying to get back in Aaron asked the other pair if they would come over and just make sure his boat didn't flip and the comment was they weren't going to spend an hour doing nothing. You never leave someone in the water. I was appalled at these two. We ended up flipping again as the water got rougher. Aaron was both calm, professional and kept us safe. We were lucky enough that a boat had been called that there was trouble and they got us up on their boat. These people were absolutely a blessing, so kind and certainly saved the day. Poor Aaron trying to pull our kayak while we hung on was really a hard thing to do. We arived back at Rush and a young lady who worked for Rush was absolutely lovely, very kind and couldn't do enough for us. I would like to thank everyone at Rush. I would highly recommend them. To the father who decided it was better to leave us put everyone's lives into jeopardy. Hopefully you made it back safely to the dock.

We took the 3hr kayaking tour on a beautiful sunny morning. Although the tour guide was kind, the experience itself was not worth it and I would not recommend it.
Unfortunately there is just very little to see on this kayaking trip apart from open water, some rocky ledges, a few star fish, and the occasional seal which are abundant in the area.
My recommendation is to save your money and so something else in Sooke.

Amazing guide kept us entertained during the entire trip with his encyclopedic knowledge of the area. Beautiful area with lots to see. Special note: you will be provided with spray skirts for your kayak. A nice touch that isn't always included on kayak tours/rentals to keep you warm and dry.
