Spent the day fly fishing the Elk river and have to say it is in my top 3 fishing trips.
Linden my guide was excellent and had me on fish all day long. If you book request Linden and you won’t be disappointed.

I love this place/operation!! Great happy & upbeat staff, vibe & terrain - from steep to mellow, shorter to long & rolly lines, gladed tree runs through a mix of old growth to open & regenerating areas. Their terrain tops out higher than Polar Peak at the Fernie resort, so well buffered against variable temperatures. Last time in (of five so far) was solo, thrown in with a party of ten who stayed at the lodge. They raved about their stay & experience too and were going to re-book for a third time. Highly recommended.

4 awesome cats, 4 different drivers and we headed to the top!! Great guides, great food and we got 9 really good runs in, even though I cliffed myself out with a hilarious ending. Good times had by all, highly recommend!

First time cat skiing and it was very nice to access parts of the mountain in the Fernie area only by using a cat.
The scenery was magnificent, however, I found the terrain to be borderline for my skill level, which I rate at a strong intermediate level, which FWA states is the minimum required to enjoy the day, which I disagree with.
I would suggest that a person should be an expert skier at a minimum to enjoy the day.
We started out our day on what I considered to be two very difficult runs. I would have preferred to have started with more open runs, i.e. less trees, with a shallower descent in order to warm up and get use to using FWA's powder skis (which FWA suggests that you do)
After the first two runs, I thought that I might be over my head, however, runs 3,4,5,6 and 7 were better but still with had lots of trees.
We finished the day with runs 8 and 9, which were extremely difficult again.
Riding the cat was fun, the staff at FWA were very professional and helpful and the scenery was exceptional.
However, I believe that you should be an expert skier at a minimum and be prepared to ski amongst a lot of trees.
Snow conditions weren't the best, however, we can't control what mother nature gives us.

The company canceled my day of cat skiing, due to poor weather conditions, which is fair enough - except that they refused a full refund and kept $100 per person!
I had interpreted the non-refundable clauses stated at the time of booking ($100 at initial booking, and then full amount 14 days prior) was in the event that I wanted to cancel.
I never dreamed I would have to pay when THEY cancelled on me. Tried to reason with FWA to no avail...
Highly unethical in my opinion. STRONGLY recommend only booking when on site in region and there is a reasonable assurance that weather forecast looks good. Or better yet, go with other providers with better practices.

We booked one day of Cat skiing the last week of February. Fortunately we had tons of snow during our visit so ski conditions were great. Like most places, there were positives and negatives with this operation. First the positives. The guides were very friendly and helpful to the group. The pickup at our condo was very accommodating and made it very easy to do one day. On the negative side, I wasn't overly impressed with the terrain. 75% of the skiing was in very dense forest. With all the new snow, it would have been nice to carve some nice continuous turns in the powder. Safety was not as rigorous as I have experienced elsewhere. Although we were all equipped with transceivers, we did not have any other basic equipment such as shovels and probes. I worried about the chance of rescue in the event someone was actually buried. Also, the lunch was very poor compared to others I have had.

We lucked out with 37 cm of new snow the day before we went. Conditions were great. We managed to get in 9 runs that were each unique. The guides were very knowledgeable about each of the runs and were eager to help each of us have a great day.

I skied two days last week with FWA, and had a wonderful experience. This season has obviously left something to be desired in terms of snowfall, but that didn't diminish the quality of our days. I was impressed, in particular, with the quality of the team. Every person I interacted with at FWA seemed genuinely dedicated to making sure I had two of the best days of skiing of my life. They were friendly, interesting, experienced, and pleasant to be with. When my wife took a bad spill and reaggravated an old injury, one of the guides skied with her for most of the day, pointing out more open lines, and making suggestions about how she could get the most of her day.
I look forward to returning next year, and thereafter.

We have been skiing with the fantastic crew at Fernie Wilderness Adventures for several years now. Kim, Brian and Cindy and the whole crew really look after us. We have done individual trips as well as corporate outings and I can't say enough about their warm hospitality and getting us into some fantasic snow. We were there on our last trip Feb 28th.....it snowed 24+ inches over a 48 hour period and when even the Fernie Ski hill had closed runs.......we had "top to bottom" waist deep powder.....ALL DAY!!!
Words are cheap........check out the photos!!!
If you love skiing powder......look no further!!!!! Really convenient location as well. Their office is right in the hotel. Park Place Lodge. Good package.
