About
The Elgin County Railway Museum has been housed in the 52,000 square foot building since its incorporation in 1989 and purchased the property in 2010. The Museum has grown from a small solely volunteer run institution to a growing and thriving organization with dedicated staff, opportunities for summer employment, and a foundation of strong volunteers that has blossomed over the past 30 years. We look forward to continuing to grow in our community and provide a bond to our city’s history and future as “The Railway City”.

Took my nephew here for a day out. He loves trains so he was thrilled to be able to explore and check out all the trains and their old work house. Lots of neat information too.

The young man that took my husband, myself and two 12 year old grandsons through the museum was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and made sure we saw everything. I wish I could remember his name but if you have the chance to have a tall fellow with longish hair be your guide you are in for a treat. It brought back many memories for my husband and I and the boys were amazed at the size of trains they have only heard of. The model room, especially for locals that know the area,is unbelievable. It’s hard to imagine the amount of work, building skill and planning that was required to create this display. This museum is worth the visit for tourists and locals alike.

Get the feel and smell of a train repair centre. The people there are friendly and eager to share their knowledge of the past train centre that was such an important part of St. Thomas. Trains on display, of course, but also a wide display of all the equipment to run a railroad. For only 7 dollars entry we enjoyed this museum.

Small but interesting.

We visited following our Day Out with Thomas Adventure so our admission was free but I don't think admission is very much $. It was raining that day so lots of puddles outside.

There were some train cars outside and a very nice mural on the outside building that we saw when leaving.

Inside there is a gift shop behind the admission desk, some displays,
A room with a wonderful model train display, some train engines and cars you can go inside and an area of train tables for the little ones to play with. There is a skateboarding park across the road for the older kids.

Restaurants, grocery and other places around.

We only had three in our group but we’re given a personal tour just for us. That was nice. Lots of good information on the history of rail in the area and neat artifacts. Quite a few train cars to tour and explore and a great model train display. Price was fair and our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Great time for anyone interested in history or rail or both!

I stopped here on my way back from Toronto. The museum is very interesting and the young lady leading the tour was fantastic. They have a steam engine, several diesels, an electric, and a variety of passenger cars inside. There are a couple of HO model railroads. There are also several freight cars outside. I highly recommend it!

My family had so much fun seeing all the trains and items. My dad had the biggest smile teaching us about the parts he used to make.
