We arrived in Lunenburg on a beautiful day - we came early , planning to have supper and to see the show 'Glimpses'. Travelling with my senior parents - being seniors they love to be early for everything. :) I saw the Trot in Time Buggy Tours and thought they would love that so we went over to enquire about the wait time. We were told 20 minutes and that was exactly the wait time. We spent the time chatting with the owner, Basil Oickle, who I knew from my school days. My folks enjoyed chatting with Basil and we loved the tour, and the guide,, Tanya, who did a great job. They have a lot of information to pass on during the tour. Well worth the $20.0/per person price.

Our group of 4 adults found ourselves in Lunenburg, NS, and we wanted to know a bit more about the town. We saw the Trot in Time Tour and thought we should check it out. We had to wait for the horses to rest between rides, so we sampled some wonderful homemade ice cream from a nearby shop that was recommended (thankfully!!)by the tour owner. After a 20 minute rest, we were on our way. Our driver, Elijah, was a true Nova Scotia treasure - he had that "laid-back-corny-joke humor" that makes a tour like this fun and relaxing at the same time. Our horse, Jim was a hard working fellow, and was well cared for by both the owner and the driver. This was a great way to see the area, and the driver was very knowledgeable. He seemed to truly love the town and we enjoyed it more because of him. We didn't have kids with us, but it would have been great for them as well!

This horse and buggy tour was a good way to get an overview of the town. The guy who signed us up was funny and friendly. I got the feeling they respect the horses. We had to wait for the horse to have some oats before we could go, and part way through the tour we stopped for the horse to have a drink and have its legs hosed off. The tour guide was nice, but I got the feeling she had already had a long day and was just going through the motions. The jokes were very corny. It was a pretty good price at $20 per person, as in Montreal we paid $40. I would recommend doing this tour.

Last week I saw the tired horse hauling the carriage of tourists around town mid-day when it was not fit for anyone to exert themselves due to extreme temperatures/humidity. The horse should never have been forced to work that day. :(

Today (July 25/18), in Lunenburg, there is a heat warning from Environment Canada with humidex values at 36 .Today Trot in Time is working 4 horses from 9am until 9pm with no chance to be in the shade nor free of the heavy harness and wagon. As I passed one wagon it was loaded with 6 people-obviously who cared little for the health and welfare of the horses.

We recently had a friend visiting from outside Canada, and we thought a horse drawn tour would be a good way for her to get an overview of the history, architecture, and layout of Lunenburg. And as residents of the area, we hoped to learn a bit more about Lunenburg, too. What a disappointing half hour! While the tour guide was friendly and tried to engage the folks on the tour, his spiel was 90% hokey jokes and banter, and only about 10% content. Even the historical notes were taken directly from plaques we could have just read ourselves. Significant monuments, buildings, and parts of town were passed by without comment. If you want to actually learn something about Lunenburg, skip the carriage ride and do a walking tour, either on your own (there's great signage throughout town) or with a good guide. If you just want to get off your feet for 30 minutes and have a pleasant but expensive ride through town, then this might be a good option.

My wife and I arrived in Lunenburg in the early afternoon. I had researched this horse drawn carriage tour prior to leaving home. The driver was very familiar with Lunenburg and presented the signts in a very entertaining way. We had to wait but only a short while. There are no reservations but two horse drawn carriages make the run. Lunenburg is a World Heritage sight. Lots of interesting things to see. They leave just in front of the parking area where the Bluenose II is berthed. The fee is $20 CDN ea for the 35 min tour.

A 25 minute ride with 90 seconds of information. If our guide had knowledge of the historial facts she didn't share them with us. Not sure she was sure what the Blue Nose II was much less it's significance. We did learn how horrible and upset one of her previous clients from France was earlier that day and we did learn a lot about Charlie the horse. I can tell you he was a Amish plow horse; he likes to fake a limb; and the farts a lot especially near Subway! Maybe it was the end of the day and the guide was tired but it was the biggest waste of our time and our money. Fortunately, Glenn, our Greyhound guide in Halifax was able to give us some history about Lunenburg and the Blue Nose II.

Loved loved Lunenburg. Do a carriage tour plus the ghost tour to see day and night. And to hear the riveting stories about this town. It’s one of the oldest in NA and the only one where The Whole town is rated as a UNESCO site. It’s also one of the richest towns of that era so it’s stunning.
