This church was constructed in 1756 and after many alterations it sadly succumbed to a fire on Halloween night 2001 - the blaze destroyed most the contents and half of the building, which had been designated a national historic site as the second-oldest Anglican church in Canada. It was classified as Carpenter gothic revival architecture
because of its wooden rather then stone structure.
As Lunenburg is UNESCO protected finance was raised to reconstruct to the smallest detail an exact replica - extraordinary. It was fortunate that they had the craftsmen as Lunenburg was a large shipbuilding town through centuries notwithstanding the grand houses with their intricate wooden relief on their roofs windows and verandahs
requiring maintenance - so these skills remained in the town from generation to generation fortunately
It is such an architectural gem of great beauty with a fitting spiritual energy - you are humbled here by the sheer tranquillity
We were guided through the history by one of the proud volunteers whose family can trace their ancestry back to early settlers

this is a beautiful church. Quite the find in little Lunenburg. Certainly worth a visit. The windows are amazing. Its a short walk into town, up the hill from the harbour.

This church is carpenter gothic "on steroids". It is beautiful outside, but also the guide on-site inside was very informative and friendly. It is a "must-see" if you are in Lunenburg, especially if you are interested in architecture.

This church is just lovely, and the story fascinating. We actually went twice during our visit to Lunenburg. We got to meet the “prayer cat” Who is a very delightful, friendly calico. Both times the guides were extremely knowledgable, and friendly and gave us Other local information such as good places to eat and shop. We really enjoyed the tour of the Balcony by an absolutely wonderful young woman named Jane. Altogether, a very worthwhile stop.

When we recently visited Lunenburg we went to the Anglican Church which had been restored after a serious fire in the mid-2000's. It is a truly Amazing place!! The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend a visit to see this beautiful building.

Beautiful restored church inside and outside. Would recommend seeing it with Lunenburg Walking Tour to get history and details of the church from their narration. Great photo ops.

Founded in 1753 this church was beautifully restored a few years ago after a fire. The pews and ground flooring were saved but the entire roof structure and stained glass have been replaced by very skilled craftsmen. The Gothic roof structure was rebuilt using Nova Scotia pine and some of the craftsmen involved were boatbuilders. Their skill is plain to see!
The very knowledgeable guide filled in the gaps on the self guided tour and it's well worth a visit.
