There can be no question that COVID-19 has sucked the wind out of 2020. Since mid-March, we’ve had to basically stick to our own social bubbles and, when out, adhere to a number of Provincial health protocols aimed at slowing the spread. Once summer hit, BC’s Premier placed a heavy emphasis on “staying local” and encouraging us to see what our own backyard – BC – had on offer. And that’s one positive thing that’s come out of this pandemic: It has encouraged us to explore what we might’ve otherwise taken for granted. I, for one, have visited a number of sites this year that I probably would’ve passed over in more “normal” times. Thus, while this has been a challenging year on a number of fronts, it’s also had its own rewards.

As part of our summer staycation, we decided to check out the Centennial Park at 100 Mile House. Located downtown, the park is fairly expansive and is well-known for its significant green space, picnic areas, playground, tennis courts, walking trails and waterfall. I admit the park was a pleasant surprise but, first, a funny story:

When we arrived, we initially parked our vehicle across the street from the official Centennial Park signage. For a brief moment we actually thought “this is it? Well, it looks nice, I guess.” After all, the sign was adorned with a plethora of lovely flowers and there was a bit of green space, so it looked like a park; and, in our defense, we’ve been to a number of small town parks that HAVE been quite minuscule! But then . . . we came to our senses, spied the roadway that led into the park grounds and had a much more enjoyable experience!

While the park itself is quite lovely, our primary point of interest was the Bridge Creek Trail. The trail is approximately 500 meters in length, follows Bridge creek, is of a very easy grade, and eventually leads you to the impressive Bridge Creek Falls. The roar of the rushing water was majestic in its own way and really allows one to appreciate the power of Mother Nature. Of note: There are some remnants of old machinery adjacent to the Falls, which I suspect was used for hydro once upon a time? I love seeing old traces of the past in settings such as this! Beautiful!

We visited the park so we could do the walk to Bridge Creek Falls. The trail is an easy walk with lots of places to sit if you wish. Falls are beautiful. Nice park that seems very well maintained.

Centennial Park in 100 Mile House is a beautiful little hidden gem. Tucked away and not very obvious, but when you drive down into the park and head up the trail towards the waterful you are truly in nature. On the other side of the park is also a nice little playground and right now they are installing a little water park. There is also a nice little campground accessed from another road on the other end of the park.

Lovely park with a great waterfalls within an easy stroll from the parking lot. Lots of picnic tables. Take lots of mosquito repellant and a head net. I was swarmed as soon as I got out of the car. Very nice for a town this size.

We residents of 100 Mile have sent years building the park to become one of the nicest places to just get away for the busy life we have and enjoy the wild life of the forest around us

Lovely park with a fast moving creek coming off a waterfall (caution for little ones). Also mild walking paths and a playground for children. I would go with a dog or friend as is in a ravine setting.

I'd be willing to bet 99% of those coming through town aren't even aware of this park. We're equally guilty a lot of times about just staying on the main road through towns and missing out. Centennial Park is only a couple of minutes off the highway, and makes for a great break. Even when we stopped in midsummer it was peaceful, and we really enjoyed the short walk to the waterfall. The kids enjoyed the well maintained playground too.

This was a great walk. The trails are well maintained and the walk to the waterfalls is up the hill. Nice place to spend a couple of hours.

Great place for the family to picnic, relax and enjoy. The water fall is easy to access. The spray park is wonderful way to cool off with little kids. Something for everyone.
