Booked the Bear Raft River Drift with Kynoch. Was in contact with Fraser via email and he was very prompt with his replies and was very helpful to get us on a Raft Drift.
We went on the late afternoon and within the first 10mins we saw a bear and we kept seeing them. Fraser knew where they were and was very patient to wait for the bears to come to us. Fraser has a ton of knowledge of bear behaviors, history, stories and community interactions with the bears. He was very educational which was some of the best part of the trip. I really appreciated Frasers respect for the bears and giving them their space and his confidence in being so close to the bears on the river. I had total trust in him navigating us through the river. I highly recommend this company and when I'm back in Bella Coola again I will do the Raft Drift again.

We lucked out with a warm, sunny day to float down the Atnarko River. We saw one grizzly before we boarded the rafts, and had the opportunity to observe a second grizzly amble along the river bank opposite where we were tucked into a cove, with ample time to observe. We also had 3 or 4 black bear sightings. Fraser and Molly were organized getting us on and off the river. Molly was our guide and was fun, knowledgeable and pointed out all the interesting flora, shells, fish, and bears along the river. The river was shallow and it was no small feat to drag the raft and our combined weight over shallowing spots along the river. We did expect the actual ride down the river would be a bit longer, but Molly and Fraser made it memorable. Thanx!!

We had a beautiful, well guided, informative float trip down the Atnarko river. We didn’t see any bears because the spawning salmon were alarmingly scarce this fall but the scenery and experience was worth every penny. As with any wildlife adventure you never know what you will see and our adventure didn’t disappoint even without the bears.

Yes, it was a poor salmon year. The bears we did see, although fewer in numbers in 2021 season, did appear healthy and well fed overall, so here is hoping 2022 is a better salmon return! Appreciate your understanding o wildlife viewing issues! Cheers, Fraser

Take care - we a Danish couple booked and paid for a trip.
Because Canada has closed it's border we are not allow to enter the contra.
We asked to get our money back - CAD 289 and got this message:
As you likely are aware there is a global pandemic and there are many
changes in world travel.
As stated very clearly to you at the time of booking your booking fee is non
refundable.
It will be credited for a period of 2 years until Sept 30 2022
... the last sentence is very nice when you just have passed 82 years :-)

I regret you feel this way. The text you posted clearly explains that we informed you of unique travel constraints owing to Covid. I personally reached out to you in a variety of emails hoping to accommodate you in 2021 or 2022. This is the same offer to all people affected, so I am not sure why you feel this is unrealistic. You are the only guest to have issues and not wish to take advantage of the 2 year credit. It was all very very clearly described during booking. This was a Global Event far beyond my control. You clearly chose not to accept the terms you agreed to at time of booking. I wish you well. Fraser

This rafting adventure was absolutely perfect! The views were incredible, there were bears everywhere on the day that we went, and the guides were knowledgable and kind. Some of us had very expensive camera gear on the float, and it was all safe. HIGHLY recommend!!

Our guide was pleasant and informative but I feel when I enquired the trip was oversold on the chances of seeing the bears feasting on salmon. There is salmon everywhere dead alive dying and only 175 bears in the vicinity. So the bears are well overfed. Also very expensive (nesrly 500 CAD for 2) for such a short time. Tour said 3 hours we were back in 2.5hours which included a 10 minute drive to get the boat plus another 5 minutes or so getting in and setting off. We didn't see any grizzlies. Just saw the back end of a black bear as we got back to the campground starting point. The trip up the river is only about 3km. Having spoken to a few locals there are more chances of seeing bears in lots of other areas around Bella C. Maybe we should have waited until September but judging by other reviews not a lot of bears were seen. I appreciate they are wild animals and unpredictable etc etc but I was told by locals that less and less bears are seen in recent years. If you really want to see bears probably best to look elsewhere or go and check with locals and save yourself some money.

The float is a bit pricey given that you go only 3 km down the Atnarko River, but what a peaceful and scenic ride! It was much nicer than being staked-out at a viewing platform. The trip was well organized. Our guide (Justin) was funny and informative. And the cup of hot tea during the journey was appreciated. Highly recommend. Dress for the weather!

My wife and I did this Grizzly Bear sight seeing tour / river rafting the first week of Sept. This was a very informative tour. We saw only one Grizzly but within 50'. You want to time your visit / tour when the salmon are spawning and die on the sidelines. As our guide said, Grizzly Bears are trying to conserve calories for when the hibernate. He stated that some of their guides have seen up to 12 Grizzly's on a tour. Just depends on your timing. Now that I have a better understanding my wife and I will definitely be back.

We had a great time on the river with Fraser despite not seeing a ton of bears (the salmon are spawning a lot later this year). We went on the float 2 different times - the first time we saw a Mom bear with 2 cubs and followed her for 10 minutes. The second time, we saw a beaver and many eagles. Regardless of wildlife, the river and scenery itself was totally beautiful and worth the price.

Ironically, the beaver was the highlight on that trip! Of the thousands of drifts I've done on that river, I can count the beaver sightings on one hand! Always great to have enthusiastic guests on our tours! Cheers, Fraser

We've been on this drift twice and it was excellent both times. You can tell that the guides have a ton of experience and knowledge. As we were watching the grizzlies on our trip this September, Fraser went out of his way to ensure that we had the best possible viewing experience and his calm demeanour allowed us to relax in the presence of the majestic creatures and just enjoy! It was easy and straightforward to book and all went smoothly the morning of. The trip down the river is beautiful in its own right and the area is well worth a visit. Thanks Kynoch Adventures for a great tour! We are looking forward to the next time!
