Visited the Centre and learned that this area was the first English speaking settlement in Canada. Who knew! The Centre presents several artifacts from early settlers to the area and a good overview of the history. Staff were very helpful. In addition to the Centre,...More

Excellent presentation highlights the challenges of settling the Rock for the first colonists. The centre is well organized with a nearby archeological dig, worth the short walk.

We've always found the Canadians are very good at museums and this was no exception for a small town. We didn't have time to visit the actual dig site which is down the road and if you do, then you can get joint admission. On...More

We weren't expecting much when we stopped here, but it turned into an interesting couple of hours immersion in an early Newfoundland settlement with a history that involved English settlers, indigenous Beothuk, pirates, imported wives, and much more. The Centre itself includes artifacts, video, audio,...More

We checked web site and it stated building was open today.. Drove up from Ste. Johns only to find centre closed...very poor way to run a tourist location. On the bright side-it was a nice sunny day and spotted an iceberg.

So glad you enjoyed your visit!! If I may though, your meal was catered by Skipper Ben's - a local B&B - we don't have a walk in restaurant as such. Thanks again!!

We knew very little of the history that we took in at this unique and well set up museum. If we didn't understand something, there was always someone around to ask questions. We felt that it was more than well worth the visit. Jessica was...More
