we ended up here looking for a campsite after a long hot day kayaking at Gem lakes but not a campsite to be had at the campground just off the road with partial lake view. We were told later at East trout Lake that this campsite is always full and people stay there for long periods of time. There are minimal choices in the area we could have drove back and stayed at Pipprel lake where the sites are seasonal but if there was an opening a very nice lady said we could have rented one. Because it was all in the bush closed in not by the lake and mosquites were the absolute worst ever we opted to check out the campsites further ahead at East Trout Lake. First one was of course FULL we learned later that June is fishing month so everyone was camping and fishing. Many sites are only seasonable to this makes it miserable for people like us who are just looking for place to camp.
We were upset with the signage at the campground at Clarence Steepbank whatever you do DO NOT follow the sign that shows campgrounds further down passing Kits lake...its is a quad trail actually and it was so slowing going i was sick from motion of rocking back and forth with the camper trying to navigate the road. There was nothing at Kits lake for camping and it was getting late so we turned around.
We finally camped at the Pine Grove resort at the end of the line in a nice tenting spot with partial lake view. It was managed by an older woman who was an angel and saw me crying cause i was exhausted from the day and searching for campsites and let us stay bless her heart. Flush pottys a store and showers were welcome for 44.00 and we would stay in this well run private campground anytime! the dock here was beautiful and it was not busy yet except for 1000s of skeeters LOL

This place is beyond gorgeous and extremely peaceful. We went on a Saturday in October and only ran into one other person. This park is definitely more for the avid outdoorsmen as they do not have many amenities. There is a small campground and outhouses. There are not many hiking trails marked out but more backcountry wilderness. This is definitely a place where you would see wildlife in its element.
The roads were however extremely rough and not well maintained. There is also a bridge that further down the main road that is not safe to drive over but I was told you are able to walk over it.

Each year for 13 yrs we have been on a drive and walk about along the road. And, each year we are disappointed with the lack of maintenance. It is, as we understand, the Highways Dept's responsibility so, why is it not done?
