Loved our second night of our trip with a booked spot at Minowukaw campground. It was further out of the way but we were looking for quiet place. Low flush toilets were good and close to site 312 is a lovely river and dam with small water fall. We were in site 302 which was large corner type site as we had 4 people in our party and 2 units otherwise the sites along the lake like 309 were tiny. A burm hides the clear water and rocky shore. No kayaking as the rain pummeled us for hours. Was able to get out briefly the next morning and caught a fish but let it go.
Very disappointed by the dirty campsite. Clumps of what looked like dog hair all over the site it needed raked from the people before who also left us a treat (NOT) of all kinds of disgusting garbage in the firepit including larger amounts of clumps of dog hair. REALLY people do this with pets in a site???? We were not alone as the site next door also had a similar issue with their site dirty too and we came late in the day. They sent someone to clean both of our site.
The firewood was poor here you would need a chain saw to split it. Lots of damage all over the campsite from beavers who were right in our site and was aggressive. These beavers are cutting down trees in various stages which poses risk to campers with trees falling over on you at any time.
the main shower building had individual stalls which were quite dirty as well, two of the 4 were locked in the morning which meant a wait. All of these things were reported . Over all this is a good campsite but clean up from the previous campers really needs to have better attention

Our family booked the group campsite at Fisher Creek for a week. People walked through, road their bikes, and basically didn't care that the signs said "Do Not Enter"! After the first day of asking 4 kids not to ride through, as there was little kids playing there, and the 4 disrespectful, entitled jerks swearing at us, we called the camp office and they promptly came and put up more signage. This didn't do anything as the people that live at Candle Lake apparently can't read! The woman that walked through the campsite every morning smoking a joint was a real winner!! One guy and his partner actually asked if we wanted to fight when we asked if he would mind going around. Our last day there a woman came and took pictures of the signs that the park maintenance put up, as well as our tents, campers and us, including my grandchildren! She said she was going to the camp office and we told her to go ahead. I do think there are laws against her taking pictures of the kids however. The camp ranger and maintenance people did all that they cold for us but the people of Candle Lake have little respect for people that are camping there.

We came to Candle Lake Provincial Park based upon the good reviews we’ve encountered online. The lake and beaches are said to be awesome. Although we understood the Park was pet friendly, I beg to differ. The sole attraction of the parks’ two main areas are, well, the beaches. Dogs are prohibited at all beaches. Period. (Most of the public beach in town are the same)
We arrived in a 34 degree heatwave. No reprieve for our dog. I then spent an hour finding a spot outside the park along the road we could cool off my hound.
Save your time and frustration and drive an hour west to Prince Albert National Park. Dogs are welcome anywhere outside the swimming bouys. No hassle. (The campsites are nicer also).
Not cool Sask Parks.

I went to Wasketeena beach with my kids because of the shallow waters. I DO NOT recommend this beach. There were many dogs running lose, my kids got chased by a big dog and we’re terrified, dog poop not picked up, and the smell from the garbage can! It was disgusting. I don’t understand why there would be dogs allowed on such a busy beach!! I made sure to keep the dogs away from my kids after they were chased but needless to say it was not a relaxing, fun day at the beach when I was on guard shooing dogs away constantly. It won’t be long before someone gets bit. Shame on you Candle Lake.

Sandy Bay Provincial Campground at Candle Lake is a great family getaway. There's a huge sandy beach and a boat launch as well as parks and hiking trails. The village is a short drive away if you need any groceries or beverages. We love this campground.

We camped here the end of July 2017. The sites were clean, spacious and treed for privacy. The showers were clean as well. The beach was fantastic! Sand, no water shoes needed. Water is warm, swimming was excellent and fishing was amazing. Lots of pike and some walleye which is harder to catch. We ate both during our time here. Really tasty as there was no fishy taste to the fish. There is a town that you can get gas, food, fireworks, a pizza place, ice cream store and some eclectic shops for souvenirs and clothing if needed. There is also a nice 18 hole golf course my husband tried, and really enjoyed it. The lake is shallow around the beaches but lots of room for water sports and boating. One of the nicest lakes I have been to in Western Canada. We will be back!

We went to Candle Lake to do a bit of swimming. The lake has some wonderful beaches that are really shallow. You can walk out and go from waist deep to ankle deep at least three or four times before it becomes really deep. Wild. Soft sand and very warm.

Great beach and lots of it. Sand dunes in the water make it great for the younger kids to swim as it is shallow for a ways. Great camp sites. Fire ban made it challenging to find evening entertainment. Over all very impressed. We are making this one of our top 10 camping destinations.

Better way finding
“Resort” village lacks community & has no centre
Crappy Food Store & other services
Would not call Candle Lake a “resort village”
Typical gas family destination

Which would you say was the better campsite for electrical sites, Minnewakaw or Sandy Bay? Are there advantages or disadvantages to either? Which are more private & treed?
Written September 1, 2020
I only camped at Minnewakaw, electrical was good, sites are in a forest.
Do not have info on Sandy Bay

Where is the Purple Sands Beach located? It is easily accessible?
Written June 12, 2018
It's on the far eastern side of the lake. As far as I know, it's not accessible by road, you can only get there by boating across the lake
Written July 18, 2018
Do you have any boat rentals at either of the campgrounds? And which campground is closer to the golf course?
Thanks!
Written August 21, 2017
I am not sure about boat rentals but try contacting Sask Tourism directly. They are super helpful with any questions.
I believe that Sandy Bay Campground is the closest to the golf course. It's about 10-15 minute drive.

Hi ,
what are the cross country skiing opportunities?
Written October 5, 2016
Hi, I have never XC skied @ Candle, but I am told there is 14 or 15 km of trial (groomed) in two areas of the park, Bay Lake and Hilltop. If I were to go skiing in the general area I would also consider Prince Albert National Park. Yesterday and today we are getting snow for the 1st time this season.

Is there fishing there.sorry new to this area.not sure where to camp and fish..thanks
Written June 2, 2015
Yes there is good northern pike fishing all over Candle Lake. The Walleye fishing is mostly done across the lake at the "islands" There is a rock shelf there that the walleye like, as it has a sharp drop off. There is also a trout pond that is stocked and has good fishing just by standing on the shore. This lake is very large and if there is a wind it can get very rough very quickly. Make sure you watch the weather and head in if it looks like wind or rain coming.
