Indescribable experience. Nothing compares to having the wolfdogs so close and being able to feed them. Tour guide made us feel very comfortable with the animals and answered all our questions. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Calgary/Canmore area. Worth every penny.

A brilliant visit!
We took the interactive tour, which I highly recommend.
This sanctuary is truly that - a second chance for wolfdogs who often come from less than ideal circumstances.
Our interactive tour gave us the opportunity to go into 2 enclosures to hear stories of the wolfdogs and to meet them. We were able to offer them treats which was really special.
The sanctuary is so well set up and the wolfdogs have a beautiful safe home now.
Thank you for a great visit.

We took our grandson and totally enjoyed the interactive experience including the feedings. First time for him and the second time for us! We will do it again for certain. The Yamnuska wolf dog Sanctuary is a beautiful place and the staff helped us understand these magnificent animals a little bit more.
Thank you so much for the education and experience.

The interactive tour was an incredible experience! It was great learning about these misunderstood animals and to see all the amazing work The Yamnuska Sanctuary is doing to preserve them. We had an awesome visit to Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. We just did the self-guided walking tour and still walked away so impressed by this place. The stories of the wolfdogs and their work with them were so interesting. We loved watching with the wolfdogs through the fences and seeing their different personalities. The staff was very nice and the paths were clear. It was a great outing for our animal-loving family.

The interactive tour is excellent! You can get up close with these beautiful animals whilst learning more about them, and understanding more about how the sanctuary cares for wolfdogs. It’s also a female-founded and run business, which is a bonus!

We did the interactive tour which was amazing. It was great to be able to see some of the wolf dogs up close and have them eat from our hands. The tour was very informative about the wolf dogs and the history of the sanctuary. The sanctuary itself is very well set up and looks like it’s well maintained. Would definitely recommend as a must do for anyone driving between Calgary and Banff.

During the interactive tour, we were able to see some of the wolf dogs up close and feed them some treats. It was a great opportunity to observe them, take photos, and ask questions. Loved it! I want to return again during the winter sometime. Also, love the fact that our fees go towards taking care of these beautiful animals. Great gift shop with lots of shirts, sweaters, stuffies, and much more, too.

Really nice place - Lots of nice carved wood. There's an option for both an interactive tour and simple scenic walk around the park, both were wonderful options.
The interactive tour was such a fun and cool experience, the way the wolfdogs come up and eat right out of your hand or stand so close. While that is happening you get to hear about all the stories that were both sad and fascinating to hear about. The scenic walk let you see and read all their stories for yourself. While it lacks the interactive feature it was still an interesting time killer and you get to see all the beautiful wolfdogs. Didn't disappoint in the slightest.

Hi Do they have a wardrobe where I can store my travel bag during the tour?

If it's raining can we use umbrellas on the self-guided tour?

If you are just taking a self-guided tour, using an umbrella would be fine. We did the interactive tour, and on a rainy day, they have covered areas that you can sit under to stay dry while you interact with the wolf dogs.

Does the opening hours/days change during the summer months? Trying to plan a summer trip and only Tuesday/Wednesday would work unfortunately.

Is there a best time of day to go on the interactive tour in terms of activity of the wolf dogs and crowds?

Feeding time is good and what is nice is that you can take your time to wander. It would be better though to pre-book the interactive tour if you can.

Could anyone recommend return transport from Fairmont in Banff to Sanctuary, we will be there in December and don't want to drive. The only quote I have is for $700. Thank you

Yes it's quite a long way from Banff - hence the $700. Try emailing the sanctuary or the tourist office in Banff. We were staying in Cochran so not so far and we had transport. The sanctuary is quite interesting but I think you could spend your $700 on more interesting places. Maybe cheaper to hire a car. There's likely to be a lot of snow in December.

Can children go on the interactive tour? We have a granddaughter who is 5. Thanks, Anita
Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary
Cochrane, Canada
Hi Anita,
The minimum age for the Interactive Tour is 15 years old. The wolfdogs are very sensitive to humans, so bringing small children into the enclosure for the Interactive Tour just isn't possible.
Do you have group discounts?
Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary
Cochrane, Canada
Thanks for your question! At this time we do not have group discounts. The interactive guided tour is $46 per person and only 8 spots are available per tour (reservation required). We also have a sanctuary walk option, which is not limited for space and is $21 per person.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
