My husband and I, who live in Florida ,have spent several weeks in Tofino each summer for 20 years. This past summer we had 3 friends come to see the West Coast and discover why we travel across country every year. On advice from our innkeepers, we signed us all up for the Archipelago cruise out of Ucluelet, and I will now try to make it part of our yearly stay. What a relaxing yet exciting way to see the beauty and wildlife of the Broken Islands that cannot be accessed any way but by boat. We saw eagles, bears, sea otters, seals as we cruised along the islands. Lunch of fresh salmon was served as we anchored off shore. What a perfect way to enjoy the best of the West Coast!

The various wildlife sightings, including my favourite, the sea otter made this trip aboard the Rainforest Princess extra special. The yacht is lovely, the food delicious, the hosts informative - all in a beautifully peaceful setting. A not to be missed experience.

Best boat cruise in Canada! This was our fifth time. It’s relaxing, food is great and always some wildlife to see - even though it’s a lottery! The hosts Toddy and Al are excellent. Highly recommended.

We had so much fun on this tour. Al and Toddy know the area very well so you get a great variety of wildlife! We purchased the lunch also, and it was delicious. You cannot go wrong when choosing to take this tour!

Perfect day out exploring the broken islands. This is the trip if you want to do it in style and at a leisurely pace. Al and Toddy welcome you aboard their gorgeous boat and make you very comfortable from the start. You can sit anywhere you chose with comfortable chairs, cushions, binoculars and seasick wrist bands for those who may feel the need. With an excellent knowledge of the area you learn so much about the past and present. The scenery is beautiful and they are constantly on the lookout for the wildlife. We saw a humpback whale, seals, sealions, sea eagles and other birds but the sweetest of all adorable sea otters. A lovely selection of hot and cold drinks on offer throughout your trip and we would recommend taking the gourmet lunch which we had served in a quiet bay in glorious sunshine. A last minute booking gave us a beautiful day out and was one of te highlights of our trip. Thank you Al and Toddy for sharing your time and your beautiful boat with us. A fabulous memory of our time in Ucluelet. We would certainly do this trip again

Very well organized, punctual, friendly, upbeat day. They did a great job explaining how the day would unfold and then delivered! Highly suggest you get the lunch when signing up. Great way to meet people from all over the world for a day!

What a beautiful way to spend the day. I traveled from Australia to explore Ucluelet which is one of the world's best-kept secrets. Alan and Toddy are the most gracious friendly hosts. Their boat is so well organized, with a warm welcome, fabulous amenities, tea, coffee, and muffins all laid out with style. The commentary provides a really detailed history of the area including wildlife and the ecology of this beautiful wild place. Lunch was served at individual tables set up around the deck with the opportunity to purchase wine, champagne, or a cold beer, a fabulous lunch. Wildlife sightings included a bear with her cubs, bald eagles, seals, and my favorite the otters. Not to be missed. Magnificent day with thanks from Oonagh.

The best day of our trip! We did the wildlife trip and enjoyed 6 hours on the water with frequent wildlife sightings, interesting historical facts, and even some “dad” jokes along the way. And that lunch was delicious and so we’ll thought out and served! Do it!

Excellent cruise, almost exactly as described with the additional bonus of beautiful misty landscapes in the first half of the cruise. That doesn’t stop us from seeing abundant wildlife - sea lions, seals, adorable sea otters, bald eagles, black bear with bonus bear cubs, to name a few. Toddy and Alan made it their business to ensure customers are happy. They explained the rules clearly at the beginning and are extremely well-organized to ensure everyone is comfortable. The setup of the cruise allowed people to mix or keep to their individual groups as they desired. The cruise is more expensive than the other cruises offered but definitely worth it.
The boat is comfortable and just the right size even when fully booked.
The catered lunch is very delicious and well presented. Kudos to Toddy and Alan for a very enjoyable 5.5 hrs. It was one of the highlights in our 4 days in the area.

How many people are on the boat? Is there enough cover on the boat for all passengers in case of bad weather?

I agree with the other answers. The boat is very comfortable. We had about 18-20 people. Everyone was spread around the boat. The main cabin area is totally enclosed with a sliding glass door. It has a couple of couches and chairs. Part of the upper deck is covered, but most of it is open on top and you can sit in deck chairs. Some people sit in the front of the boat. This is a wonderful trip! Toddy and Al are great hosts and guides.

I just saw your question now, so I apologise for the delay in answering. It is always best to email us as I answer emails at least twice per day.
Are you the Wilma who came out with us on June 20th? If yes, then thanks for coming! If no, then please email me and I will gladly asnwer any questions.
To any other readers:
At this time of year we strongly advise you book ahead.
There are few whales in our area at present. This may or may not change at any time. If you email me I'd be happy to explain in more detail, including info about how best to see whales at the moment.

Hello,
We are now closed until early May. However there are other companies which stay open all year. They will run in November, weather permitting. You could try either Subtidal Adventures or Beachcomber Ocean Tours.

We will travelling with a baby age 8 months at the time we would like to do the tour. Is it possible to take the baby on the Tour and do we have to pay the full amount of the 125$ for her too?

Hello
I cannot answer for Archipelago Wildlife Cruises. My suggestion is to ask the company. They were very good with email communication. Email should be on their website. However, I do doubt whether they would charge the full amount if they allow babies.

Do you get to see the Tufted Puffins on the cruise up close? I am going next week to the Island!

Ucluelet, Canada1 contribution
We see puffins the very odd time - when we do it is usually in the spring - but overall VERY seldom. It is best to assume we won't see any. There are always lots of other bird species to see though!

Just trying to better understand: does the cruise cost $159 per person?? So for a family to go on the cruise would be more than 800$ (inc tax)?
wildlifecruises
Ucluelet, Canada1 contribution
I apologize for not answering sooner but I just saw this question now.
The total cost for your family would depend on how many people are in your group, the ages of your children and whether you choose to order meals or bring your own. And, if you do opt to order the meals, whether your children order the adult or the children's meal.
The best way to find out the exact cost for your group is to go to our website (Archipelago Cruises):
Click on RATES, then click on the box that says "CALCULATE TOTAL COST" . This brings you to a form that will calculate the exact total cost, including tax, once you have filled in the details mentioned above. It only takes about a minute or less.
I hope this helps. If you have any further questions please contact us via email to get a quick response.
