We completely understand that wildlife is wild and there are no guarantees to see anything. However, the group was extremely misleading when we booked our trip saying that there was a higher likelihood of seeing orcas on any of their trips. We talked to them at least 3 times and each time were reassured that the season was still good and that the chance of seeing orcas were very high. However, when we got there everyone knew we would not see orca and that they had moved on already as they usually do by that time of year. The guides knew it, the boat operators knew it, everyone. Other camps were already breaking down for the season because they weren’t selling false trips. It’s one thing to have some bad luck with wolf animals when they’re in season, but to be mislead is a whole other. The camp was beautiful, the food was great, the guides were good, and the kayaking was super fun. We saw a lot of wonderful wildlife in and out of the water. If they had told us that and been honest at the beginning that it was a very small chance to see orca, but here’s all the fun things you are likely to see, that would have helped us set our expectations and either come this year anyway our book at a time when we were more likely to see them next year. We feel like we were scammed and at least half of the people in our group expressed very similar sentiments saying they would come again, but definitely not with this operator.

A great campsite with no shortage of Orcas. Tents were comfortable and other amenities, hot tub & sauna on the beach and food were wonderful. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Saw dolphins on the ride up and Orcas every day. Explored along the coast and learned about sea life while kayaking. a truly amazing adventure.

Such an amazing trip from start to finish. Fabulous company, guide (thanx Morgan) and group. Appreciate the small group of 6, healthy and plentiful meals and great camp sites. Morgan, our guide was fabulous..such a wealth of information during our trip. There was no question she couldn’t answer about marine life. Enjoyed sea otters, eagles and a whale in our bay for almost an hour. Too engrossed during the trip to take any pictures Look forward to our next (even longer) adventure with Wildcoast Adventures. Thanx to the team for a memorable experience. Wendy

This past July, our recreation club went on this kayak adventure - twelve of us attended. I surveyed the attendees after the event, and the feedback was quite disappointing.

The descriptions on the website had the following quotes: "You'll arrive at your campsite each day, and as you set up your tent, guides will provide appetizers and prepare dinner while you relax by a campfire or take a nap! They will also take you to their favorite freshwater or salt-water swimming holes when you want to spend some time out of your kayak and get in the water". .." there are even more opportunities to take short hikes up to breathtaking viewpoints and picturesque waterfalls."  I am sorry to report that not one of these promised trip features happened, i.e., there were no appetizers, no campfires, no hikes, and no swimming in freshwater swims.

The kayaking was good and the campsite adequate, but most of us were not prepared to carry nine heavy, fully loaded kayaks over slippery algae-covered unstable rocks and logs - it took a huge amount of time, and it was amazing that no one was seriously injured. While the food was good, the head guide did little to acquaint our group with the terrain and the wildlife (even though we specifically asked for this). The assistant guide was far better.

I surveyed our members on several aspects of the trip, and the average score from all attendees was 5.8/10; sixty percent said they would not return.

We really enjoyed our trip. We were over the moon to see so much wildlife. The accommodations were comfortable and the food was great. The guides really work hard to make the experience special. The hot tub is excellent to warm up at night!

Some tips would be to make sure your luggage is waterproof for travel to and from camp (just in case). Bring an activity (books or games) for down times. And especially bring lots of warm clothes if you are going closer to fall.

Hey Lindsay, I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your trip so much! Those are great tips. It gets cooler as we get closer to fall for sure -- especially on a year like this when it cooled down so quickly. Thank you for joining us, and taking the time to write this review.

The Wild Coast 5 day kayaking trip to Desolation Sound was fantastic. Trip leaders Nolan and Morgan were knowlegeable, skilled, fun and fabulous chefs. The beauty of this part of British Columbia cannot be adequately described in words. It was amazing to experience from the water and to wake up to it from the tent. The kayaking was not overly challenging -- we are in our 60's and had no problems at all. The camping added to the nature experience. Absolutely great trip and would highly recommend it.

Gorgeous first kayaking and tenting experience. I’m 45 yrs old and the staff correctly convinced me I could do it. I trained for 8 weeks doing a basic cardio and tensor band strengthening for paddling program. Being on the water felt and looked and smelled amazing! I snorkelled every site we saw ( in september wihout a wetsuit - I love cold water ) and saw creatures I still haven’t identified. Our guides Nolan and Morgan provided so much knowledge and made us feel safe and comfortable. The food was delicious - way above expectation! I look forward to the next adventure . . .

This is our first glamping trip. We love the experience. Well done to the team. A few comment:
1) booking was a pleasure, Taya was excellent, she explained everything. Being our first multi day kayak trip we had A LOT of questions. She helped us to change dates three times when we needed to.
2) the transfer to and from Campbell River was very punctual, the marina was easy find and the car park was a short distance away. The boat ride was quite long almost 3 hours with a stop at Quadra island. The water was very choppy during our outbound journey, it may cause some sea sickness with susceptible people. Dave was very enthusiastic and pointed out the jumping salmon and other interesting stuff. On the way back the water was so much calmer and we saw some orca too.
3) Camp was very nice with mattress plus sleeping bags. The camp has hot tub and hot shower, a nice sink and ecological outhouse. The big dining camp has books and some games for “down time” when we are not kayaking.
4) On the first day we did a sunset kayak, beautiful. Second and third day each have three kayak trips, the last day one more before departure. We saw orca twice but not the humpback.
5) Food was awesome and plentiful. Lots of snacks too.
6) Lots of mosquito so definitely bring insect repellent. There was barely any sun during our trip quite hard to dry any clothes, I would suggest over packing just in case.
7) All the guides are very enthusiastic young people, mostly first or second year with orca camp. They are very knowledgeable and make the trip really fun. However I would point out, at the risk of being accused of a sexist, that two of them are young small sized girls, it is quite painful seeing them dragging the heavy double kayaks, carrying our luggage etc while we stand there waiting. We do feel obliged to help but then again we are on vacation and are quite old and really prefer not to have to do any heavy lifting etc. This is in contrast to my trip after this where there was a much higher staff to guest ratio and many of them are strong young men that make me feel perfectly comfortable not helping but just hanging around enjoying myself while waiting for them to set up everything. The transfer from the motor boat to the camp was by a small rowing boat. There was only one rowing boat so a lot of time was wasted transferring both passengers and bags. Probably two rowing boats and one extra guide will be better.

Wildcoast staff had an unexpected emergency that came up at the last minute which caused them to have to cancel our day trip. However, to their credit they worked hard to get us booked in for the same day with another company - we really appreciated them going above and beyond to set this up.

Wildcoast is a top notch company! We had booked a full day of Kayaking with our guide Nova. She was both professional and fun. The day was breezy but we set off in a small group. After paddling for about an hour it was becoming evident that the wind was not dying down. Nova checked in and it was decided we would get off the water. A delicious lunch was provided on the beach and we called it a day. Everyone was happy and were fine with the offer of a 50% refund. The following day Wildcoast refunded everyone 100%! That sort of customer service deserves a huge accolade as it is rare these days! I can’t wait to book our next tour with them. We’re looking at the one day kayaking with the whales where they take you out to the straight in the zodiac and when whales are spotted you put in the kayaks and paddle near the whales!!
Thank you Wildcoast for a wonderful half day at beautiful Rebecca Spit!
