Views over Active Pass are trumped by the dry Douglas Fir, Garry Oak & Arbutus ecosystem on the ridge. Magnificent!

This park is hard to find using Google Maps, but worth the effort. The trails leading to this park are moderate to difficult and the scenery is awesome!

Our first stop on the island, a gentle hike along the bluffs with great viewing of the surrounding islands and pass below. Lots of marine and ferry traffic, obviously very busy. An added treat, great photo opp of a turkey vulture on the top of an old dead tree

Wonderful viewpoint of the Gulf Islands!! You do have to drive here and some of the road is abit rocky but totally worth it. I cycled this road once and won't be doing that again! It's free to enjoy, no restrooms, some hillside trails to enjoy.

Driving to the Bluffs is an adventure in itself but relatively easy with convenient parking. From the top you can watch the Ferries as they leave there white foam trails behind while navigating Active Pass. Pack a picnic and enjoy the show!
You can also take the short but steep hike through and old growth forest to a historic site where a Japanese Kiln was used to make charcoal. Great hike that you can do in about an hour!

Bluffs Park is on the south end of Galiano, you can walk from the trailhead on Sturdies Bay road, near the ferry, and just beyond the small village. It's a very possible day trip: pick up some take out from the Bakery or Babes in the Woods, or from the Galiano Groceries and Garage. The hike itself is 'medium' in exertion, the view from the top is worth it. Not well signed, so you might feel like you're lost, but just keep going up and choose 'right' at forks in the forest, and you can't go wrong. Great views from the top over all the Gulf Islands.
Important: you can also drive to the top, so someone in a wheelchair or a senior with limited walking could still get out and see the view. Otherwise not accessible.

With parking available near the top, even non-hikers like me can enjoy spectacular views. There's an unearthly quiet at the top, and the views are indescribable. Not to be missed.

Nice hike up through the woods on clearly marked paths. Lots of birds to see and hear, Nearby Japanese charcoal kilns we very interesting though the path down to the kiln was steep it was also short.
