About
Professionally guided, all inclusive, day- and multi-day kayak adventures in Desolation Sound, the Copeland Islands and Okeover Inlet. Sea Kayaking is a ‘fun-tastic’ way to explore and two of British Columbia’s most unique and scenic kayak destinations, Desolation Sound Marine Park and the Copeland Islands Marine Park. Quite often we will be followed by nosy seals, playful river otters and sometimes even by an impressive sea lion. With a bit of luck we could encounter a pod of Killer Whales or even a Humpback Whale in Desolation Sound or Salish Sea. Throughout the seasons many bird species choose this area to forage or breed. Frequent sightings of bald eagles, various ducks and shore-birds are not uncommon. We focus on SMALL GROUPS and personal attention. Professionally guided & unique kayak tours in first class, made in BC, kayaks! Tours depart from Desolation Sound Resort in Okeover Inlet or from Lund Harbour on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada.

Went in a 4 day paddle with John and Wendy. Although we were stuck in shore for two days due to poor weather, John ensured we weren’t bored by taking us hiking and even teaching us about types of kayaks, tides and currents. Nonetheless the two days we did paddle were spectacular with beautiful scenery and a lot of wildlife sightings. The one-dish meals were excellent and healthy, and Footprints ensured that all food restrictions (and there were a lot) were taken care of. John is a fantastic guide, naturalist and, I’d even say, historian. We had many interesting conversations with him about local and Dutch history, and Indigenous culture. I highly recommend this company.

Amazing experience with footprint. A super great five days in the kayak filled with snorkelling and exploration of the amazing site locations and beaches. Our guide Jon B drastically contributed to our amazing experience; super knowledgeable about sea life, kayaking and the area, he was able to increase our kayaking skills from day one and make great decisions regarding were to go based on the weather conditions and group strength. Also super friendly and a great cook :) would definitely come back here and recommended this trip to anyone in the area.

I did a 4 day kayak trip of Desolation Sound with a small group. Everything was so well planned out. I was very impressed by John's (tour guide) knowledge of the area's biodiversity as well local Indigenous nations and culture. The trip was a perfect blend of adventure, beautiful scenery, good company, lots of laugh and moments for quiet contemplation. One of my favourite memories is that at dusk a couple of nights, a humpback whale would pass through the area. While we could not see him/her, we could hear the blow hole in the dark every few minutes. It was a lovely and magical sound to go to sleep to.

I took a 3-hour "Hulks" tour with John in his fabulous double kayak. It was so interesting, as a Powell River resident, to see the concrete "Hulk" barriers from the ocean side and see the Powell River Mill and dam from a totally different perspective. Upon my return home, I re-opened John Campbell's wonderful book on the "Hulks" as this trip revitalized my interest in the area's history and landmarks.
John provided an informative, safe and lovely 1/2 day adventure. His knowledge, professionalism and clear passion for nature and the area was infectious. The Townsite Brewing Craft Beer Surprise Basket was appreciated; love the naming of some of their brews after the Hulks ("Quark and "Thaddeus" were delicious ).
I would highly recommend this company and look forward to future trips with them; possibly one of their kayaking "skills upgrading" trips. (-: Thanks, again!

We did a 3 day sea kayak tour through Desolation Sound and had the honor of meeting up with (as they selve describe) "a bunch of old ladies", who happend to be a really nice bunch actually. Due to our 2 amazing tour guides, we ended up feeling as one big friendly group. The guides made sure of a super ambiance in the group. Everybody is valued and can participate and is challenged to his or her capabilities.
Our great tourguides were Ken and Sonje who took really good care of us and provided us with incredible meals. The menus are changing regulalry, so you might aswell do the same kayak tour sometime later again; only the food is already worth it. Next to that, the camping gear and kayaks as provided by the operator are in neat order.
Ken has a lot of local knowdlegde of sightings and history in the area. Sonje is super enthuisiastic, absuper teamplayer and a good cook.
Wrap it all up in the beautifull surroundings of Desolation Sound which really is magnificient and you got yourselve a super tour!

We had an excellent day kayaking with John going from Okeover Inlet to Grace Harbour. We had well maintained kayaks and safety equipment as well John is a very knowledgeable guide regarding local history as well as flora and fauna.
We had all levels of skill in our tour group and John made sure everyone was comfortable and had a great day.

I can't recommend Footprint enough! I talked my parents, aunts & uncles, siblings and cousin into joining me on a 5-hour sea kayaking adventure and they're still talking about it! The majority of the group had little to no experience, but Footprint made everyone feel at ease. Our two guides made an effort to chat with everyone and fix our paddling in the nicest way. Additionally, the guides were incredibly knowledgable about kayaking, the area, wildlife and sea life. I was very impressed, as were the very hard to impress manly men in my family.
I initially contacted John at Footprint with questions about the Sunshine Coast Trail. Without any expectation of compensation, he graciously provided me a lot of information about the trail and Powell River. His generosity and knowledge led me to book the kayak trip with Footprint. If you're looking for awesome, knoweledgable guides, I highly recommend Footprint.

We were greeted by our guide who understood we had kayaked before but tactfully went over all we needed to know just in case. Our time on the water was fun as our guide shared her knowledge of the sea life and surrounding area..including holding a big sea star. Would highly recommend a tour as a way to see the area from a different perspective

We took the five-day tour to Desolation Sound. Our guides, Ken and Richard were knowledgeable, encouraging, FUN, good cooks, and wonderful teachers! Weather wasn't perfect; that didn't stop us from having one of our most memorable, enjoyable vacations ever! The meals were both healthy and delicious (no freeze-dried camping foods). Our guides gave us little educational assignments each day, e.g., checking out the wildlife, imagining how the first settlers to the area did to sustain themselves, etc. We are already thinking about a return trip!

We did Footprint's Desolation Sound day kayak tour in August 2015. We're novice Kayakers. Excellent gear, excellent guide (Richard), fair price and of course more than excellent scenery. I'd recommend these guys with zero hesitation.
