About Footprint Nature Explorations
Professionally guided, all inclusive, day- and multi-day kayak adventures in Desolation Sound, the Copeland Islands and Okeover Inlet. Sea Kayaking is a ‘fun-tastic’ way to explore and two of British Columbia’s most unique and scenic kayak destinations, Desolation Sound Marine Park and the Copeland Islands Marine Park. Quite often we will be followed by nosy seals, playful river otters and sometimes even by an impressive sea lion. With a bit of luck we could encounter a pod of Killer Whales or even a Humpback Whale in Desolation Sound or Salish Sea. Throughout the seasons many bird species choose this area to forage or breed. Frequent sightings of bald eagles, various ducks and shore-birds are not uncommon. We focus on SMALL GROUPS and personal attention. Professionally guided & unique kayak tours in first class, made in BC, kayaks! Tours depart from Desolation Sound Resort in Okeover Inlet or from Lund Harbour on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada.

I did a 4 day kayak trip of Desolation Sound with a small group. Everything was so well planned out. I was very impressed by John's (tour guide) knowledge of the area's biodiversity as well local Indigenous nations and culture. The trip was a perfect blend of adventure, beautiful scenery, good company, lots of laugh and moments for quiet contemplation. One of my favourite memories is that at dusk a couple of nights, a humpback whale would pass through the area. While we could not see him/her, we could hear the blow hole in the dark every few minutes. It was a lovely and magical sound to go to sleep to.

I took a 3-hour "Hulks" tour with John in his fabulous double kayak. It was so interesting, as a Powell River resident, to see the concrete "Hulk" barriers from the ocean side and see the Powell River Mill and dam from a totally different perspective. Upon my return home, I re-opened John Campbell's wonderful book on the "Hulks" as this trip revitalized my interest in the area's history and landmarks. John provided an informative, safe and lovely 1/2 day adventure. His knowledge, professionalism and clear passion for nature and the area was infectious. The Townsite Brewing Craft Beer Surprise Basket was appreciated; love the naming of some of their brews after the Hulks ("Quark and "Thaddeus" were delicious ). I would highly recommend this company and look forward to future trips with them; possibly one of their kayaking "skills upgrading" trips. (-: Thanks, again!

During our stay in Lund my husband and I decided to try out Kayaking. We had just a great time. We contacted the company the day prior and they were able to accommodate us and were super friendly. We showed up in the morning to meet our guide just below the Desolation Sound Resort. We were given a quick introductory on safety and all the basics and then we were off for a 7 hour round trip paddle through Okeover Arm. Our guide was fantastic and provided us with knowledge of the area and wildlife. We were able to view oyster farms, birds, live crab, and seals bathing on a rock. We stopped for lunch in a little bay, where a sandwich, veggies, and coffee was provided. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend.

My friend and I went on a 4 day kayaking trip to Desolation Sound, together with a lovely family from Calgary and our awesome guide Richard! After just a few hours, it felt like we had all been life long friends and together we explored with our kayaks some of the most amazing wildlife and the breathtaking scenery of the West Coast. We saw humpback whales, seals, eagles and a multitude of marine life that our knowledgeable guide Richard educated us about. We kayaked in the most beautiful inlets, swam in warm waters and ate some fantastic meals prepared by Richard. Some of our favourites included Dutch pannenkoeke for breakfast, a delicious quinoa salad for lunch, and Korean Ginger Beef for dinner. As we enjoyed some amazing sunsets we were even served an evening tea or coffee. A truly unforgettable experience! Thank you Richard for sharing your passion, for being so in tune with your group's needs and expectations, for your guidance, your scrumptious meals, and your awesome sense of humour; and thank you John for your outstanding communication and planning!

With my wife and son (21), I went on a 4-day-kayak tour in Desolation Sound. There was a couple joining the tour, so we were 6 including guide. The experience was beyond our expectations and it took me far away from my day-to-day live. The tour was very well planned and prepared by Footprint. Most participants had to follow special diets - all were met! Richard, our guide, was very experienced and knowledgable about kayaking, the marine life, life of the first nations, super friendly and a good cook, too. We had lots of fun, a fair amount of adventure and physical workout, overwhelming impressions of nature and we hope to come back to do more!
