Great hiking. I was hoping for old growth, but did not really find it. We did find delightful, peaceful second or third growh mixed conifer trails that were well maintained and clearly marked. There were a few big old trees. Conectivity can be a challenge, so I recommend old-school map and navigation.

There are about 50 km of trails maintained by the BOMB Squad (Bloody Old Men's Brigade). Most circuits take 1 to 3 hours and range from easy to moderately easy. In the summer all you need is walking shoes but at other times of year when it's wetter, hiking boots would be better. Maps are available from the Tourist Information Centre in Powell River.

The whole area around this lovely small lake is a maze of trails, for biking, horseback riding, running, hiking- even a limited amount of wheelchair access. A free trail map is available from the Visitors Centre in Powell River. Roads are gravel, good when logging is active. Drive slow when logging trucks are running and remember because of them- the roads exist and are kept in drivable condition

The fishing is good on Haslam lake you will catch fish and see loons, Deer, and bears are around the Lake you might get lucky and see wildlife up close even beavers. The Lake is good for canoes or kayaks and it also is electric motors only if you are boating.

My boyfriend and I frequent the duck lake trail system for weekend excursions. We are avid hikers and the duck lake trail system is very leisurely but very enjoyable! We have met mountain bikers, families, and other hikers as well as many, many dogs! So far we have walked the suicide creek trail, aloha trail, blackwater trail, yew trail and mud lake trail. The system is well marked and well kept and the trail heads are very visible from the road. We got our map of the trails at the Powell River visitor centre on Joyce avenue. Beautiful scenery even in the rain.

This lake is for the independent traveler. The town of Powell River is only 20 minutes away. One should be prepared to be away for at least one and half hours for just a drive for a preliminary exploration. Then go back prepared for a longer stay. Whether one wants to hike, fish (catch and release except for 3 or 4 small pan size Cut Throat Trout and don't forget your fishing license), hike or relax in a non motorized boat (the only kind allowed on the lake), the opportunity is there. This is the edge of the wilderness so be prepared to meet bear, cougar, squirrel, chipmunk and birds.
There is a wheel chair accessible path at one side of the lake. Give yourself plenty of time to find it and ask the locals for direction. There are logging roads in use during the week, so be careful.

A few weeks ago my wife and I and our son and his family (they have 2 children) spent an afternoon hiking the trails in this beautiful forested area. We enjoyed it so much that 2 weeks later we went round the trails on our mountain bikes. Powell River is really fortunate to have areas like Duck Lake and volunteers who give their time to maintain the trails. Thank you Powell River!

We did a nice 20KM loops that was part of the BC Bike race course. Nice trails! Good techy and flowy climbs and descents. Really nice mix of single track. Good road access as well if you need to bail. Very lush forest. Worth the visit!
