We stopped here on our way back from But hart gardens, on the number 75 bus which stops at the end of Beaver lake and the other end of Elk.
We swam, sunbathed and walked. Take your own food. The toilet block was being refurbished but there were portaloos.

There is a lot to appreciate about this easy, well-maintained, and very popular walking trail around Elk/Beaver Lake. The path is clearly marked, including kilometer markers throughout. There are 2-3 clean restrooms along the way, and the many walkers and runners are generally friendly, smiling, and greeting each other. Bicycles are not allowed on the trail.
However, about one-third of the path runs relatively close to a noisy road, which takes away from the full nature experience. While there is plenty of nice scenery, and it's easy to find spots for swimming or picnicking, the area feels a bit too manicured.
This trail is probably most enjoyable for runners who can dash along with their headsets on. Hikers looking for untouched nature might find it a bit disappointing.

Beautiful park, great for long walks and much much more! Visited twice during July, great weather, and really enjoyed our long walk along one side of the lake(s). Elk is the larger lake, and Beaver is the smaller (but connected) one. Saw lots of folks out walking, swimming, picnicking and more while there. We'll be back!

I go there often with dogs and sometimes meet friends with dogs there for a walk. It's one of the few places that there are generally no leash restrictions except of course, boring old June to Sept when they have to be on leash at the main beach at Beaver. Beware though, there are lots of runners at Beaver or Elk Lane and they won't slow down, even when there are a group of dogs ahead. You might be lucky if they call out and let you know they are coming up behind you but lots of them are too rude to bother. There are quite a few horse riders too so be aware if your dog is unused to horses, or likes to chase fast moving things (runners).

The trail around Elk Lake is around 10 KM.
The water sports you can enjoy on the Lake itself are very good.

Near the city and just off the highway, this peaceful park has a 10 K trail around it with many branches. Several beaches and at least 2 boat ramps. There are 3 main parking lots plus at least one other small one on the west side.

Beautiful lake with walking trail. Plenty of free parking. Easy to get in and out right off the highway.

A beautiful long trail around the lakes allows for a fantastic long walk if you are up for it. Be careful to track your time on the trail as there are several side trails and you wouldn't want to get lost.

Growing up primarily in Victoria, I have been walking the Elk Lake circuit on and off much of my life and the scenery manages to never get old. It is a perfect getaway for some quiet and reflection with a moderate length and minimal topographic challenges. Two of the main access points are easily accessible by major transit routes which is a bonus being a vehicular virgin. Highly recommend to any visitors looking for a structured, unspoilt walk in Victoria.

Beautiful place to walk the dog or just walk yourself. The lake is stunning and can be seen from the highway. No cost to roam thru and lots of parking. You can rent canoe's and enjoy the lake while on it.

Are there any metal BBQ's on stands there for families to enjoy a BBQ on the beach?
