These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

This place is exceptionally beautiful. Everyone who works there is kind and helpful. You could not find a piece of trash if you tried. The flowers are beyond believable. About $32 per person, but worth it. Lovely gift store.

I'm not a gardener. Although I think flowers are beautiful, gardens are generally nice, but not remarkable to me. So, I was very surprised to enjoy Butchart Gardens so much. It was quite simply an explosion of color and beauty. Wonderfully laid out, every turn...More

My children love to come here and walk through the gardens. They spend hours here looking around. My youngest thinks the fairies live here. Anytime of year it's nice to visit the gardens but spring and summer are the best! There is skating in the...More

If you want to see amazing flowers, and immaculately maintained gardens and grounds - this is the place! Since it was created on a quarry site, there is quite a bit of topography to go up/down while enjoying the gardens. So good walking shoes are...More

We went straight from the airport to the gardens, as they are open late in the summer. I had seen photos of the sunken garden on Facebook and TripAdvisor but nothing prepared me for the expanse of these gardens beyond just this one area. Out...More

You could spend a whole afternoon and evening at Butchart Gardens. Walk around the gardens in the sunshine and then see the beautiful flowers and fountains again at night when they give a whole new perspective when they are all lit up. There is so...More

we will be visiting the gardens off a cruise in the evening from 8pm till 11pm at the end of June 2017- will it still be too light out for the lights to take effect on the pathways and gardens. Will it even be worth the expense to go at this time of night?

I have not been there at night, so I would not be able to tell you. However, I figure it would still be light for a lot of the time then.
