Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

For $60+ for me and my husband....we were done in an hour, only because we sat and watched the fountain and ate ice cream for $15! Let's just say....there were a lot of greens to look at but hardly any bloomed flowers. We went on...More

This is a beautiful spot but it has become overly commercialized and the serenity is now lacking. I do not find it romantic to walk there anymore. A lot of work has gone into it. So... what God has created and placed there ...all those...More

We never fail to come here. Doesn't matter what time of year, but late May, early June are probably best for flora colors. Check their website. And DO NOT miss high tea in the dinning room; what a treat! Bring your camera! This is a...More

Beautiful gardens and they allow dogs although you're not allowed to walk on the grass! Even in March the gardens are beautiful and well maintained. However they have just stop selling water in plastic bottles but still continue to sell pop in plastic bottles. Great...More

Loved and enjoyed the Butchart Gardens....the flowers, the atmosphere, the beauty and the serenity. It was 10 years ago when we last visited the gardens and it was in the summer so it was easy to justify the admission fee. Highly recommend this gorgeous place...More

We visited in late March, thinking that not many plants would be in bloom. We were thrilled with the variety of plants and the amount of colour in the displays. This is a place that welcomes visitors any season of the year.

Thousands of flowers and the grounds are immaculate! The attention to detail is really amazing! The cost is VERY reasonable considering how much work goes into keeping it up.

Gardens are beautiful, Japanese garden was the best this time of year. I hoped to see more bulb flowers popping up, we must have been too early (late March). Wonderful story of how the gardens were created.

This was our second time here and we enjoyed it, even on a cold and rainy day...plan to linger. Don't skip the exhibits that give you history of the place--fascinating!

As David P said, it all depends on the time of day (and time of year) you are visiting. It can save some time, if there is a bit of a line up, but not always needed.
