Stanton Drew actually comprises 3 circles and the Cove which is outside the pub in Stanton Drew -The Druids Arms. Mostly people visit the two larger circles which are said to have been built over an ancient celtic place of learning. The smaller circle has a concentrated female energy and the larger circle has a very open energy in the... More

We arrive at Stanton Drew after a detour by diversion signs ,to the car park by the other stones that are in the pub garden. We walk through this pretty little village with its cottages and manor houses.Walking almost to the toll house searching for the stones, passing a pretty river flowing below a bridge .On turning we see the stones in... You need to head up to the church and round the corner there is an open space where you can park and pay a pound per person in an honesty box. Lots of history. It is considered to have been one of the largest Neolithic monuments to have ever been built. The village of Stanton Drew is very pretty and... More

Alongside Avebury and Stonehenge this hidden site is spectacular ! Unlike stonehenge admission is free and also you can freely walk about and touch them . Not the easiest place to find access is via a farm yard where again parking is free and information leaflets about the history of the circle are readly available .

Lovely, under visited stone circles. Often find you are the only people there. Pop to the Druids arms for a pint whilst there ! Free entry.

Everyone heads for Stonehenge or Avebury, so these impressive stone circles are usually really crowded. Stanton Drew is the third largest circle in England, but you can usually have it all to yourself. The ground can be quite soggy, so I would recommend a pair of decent boots or wellies. The mud can be made worse by the cattle that... More

Much less impressive to see than Stonehenge but the history behind it is fascinating. Dates back to the time of the Druids. You can also fit in with seeing Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and more.

Found this attraction on my Satnav so decided to give it a try. As everyone says it is on private land with a suggested donation per head of £1 to be put into an Honesty Box. Unfortunately when we visited the field was full of some young bullocks which were milling around near the gateway so we didn't actually enter... More

Firstly, the stones are in a cow field, so unfortunately dogs aren't allowed. We hadn't realised this before we went so it meant that one of us had to stay with the dog, whilst the other went in and then we swapped. Nice atmosphere although you have to watch where you walked. Finished the trip off with a visit to... More
