The Georgian House Museum is well located just off of Park Street and was really interesting and we were so pleased we called in. It gave some great insight into old Bristol and how the house owners lived and made their money. Well worth a visit which will only take 30 to 60 minutes.

The house is a step back in time to the Georgeon era, you see how the Penny family lived, they were plantation owners and were deeply involved with slavery, I took my daughter there when learning about the slave trade in history at school, it's a great learning aid as you can see how things were, my mother took me... A restored Georgian house that's worth visiting. Tucked away on Great George Street, it's a short 4-minute walk from the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. There are knowledgeable docents throughout the house that answered all our questions and gave us even more insight into what life was like. Each room was furnished with period furniture to give you a feeling... More

Georgian House Museum. 18th century, six storey townhouse. Sympathetically restored and decorated, furnished and displayed to depict life at that time. Built 1790 for John Pinney, a wealthy slave plantation owner and sugar merchant. We only had a day in Bristol and whizzed round places of interest but spent quite a lot of our time here. Well presented, excellent information... More

Not far from the city centre (but lots of steps) is this fine example of a Georgian town house, with fittings from the period (though not from the original house). Lots of information about the original owner and his family. The majority of the building is in its original state and the whole experience is very atmospheric. Free, but donations... More

I have visited this place many, many times from my childhood to as an adult. I love the feeling of stepping back in time, either as a rich merchant or as a servant in the kitchen below.

We spent about an hour in the house. There are a number of floors to visit. The house was the home of a sugar plantation owner. Lots of detailed laminated sheets to read, for each room. The room guides were helpful. Our teenage children found the house very interesting, but It doesn't have any hands on activities or anything interactive... More

What a lovely visit! This is a beautiful, atmospheric house which takes you by surprise when you walk in from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city of Bristol and find yourself lost in a time warp. We were very warmly welcomed by friendly and knowledgeable staff who were always happy to answer any questions we threw at them!... More
