Landscaped open areas and gardens weaving behind many colleges on the River Cam, which are known for their daffodils and crocuses in the spring, and stunning views of the colleges across the river at any time of year.

This Is the area of green between some of the major colleges and the river but it gives unprecedented and beautiful views of the "back" of these colleges. Doesn't really matter if you walk along the river or take a punt, whichever you prefer. Just...More

A nice walk with some beautiful views, but probably even nicer by boat. You can see a lot of the colleges, which is nice.. stunning at times, a nice idea on a sunny day, like today (22/9).

Amazing view of the backs of the colleges and an idea about the history of the place. It's also a good place for a picnic or just walking around.

here are three ways to see the backs. The first is to drive along the road and get a fleeting glimpse of Kings Chapel and a couple of other colleges. The mail advantage of this is that if you are early enough you can park...More

We paid over £10 each (reduced if tickets bought online, in advance) to ride in a shared punt from the Quayside but did not realise there was first a walk of several hundred meters to get to where the punts are tied up. The ride...More

A lovely stroll with the added bonus of a few watering holes on the way. Filled with highlights of great views of the backs of the colleges and universities.

Take one of the punting tours so you can sit back and relax. It is a beautiful way to enjoy the out of doors and put your feet up at the same time.

Traditional punts, propelled by a gondolier-type pole-placer, are a Cambridge tradition. The River Cam is shallow and gentle here. On a bank holiday weekend, everyone is on the river - including first timers renting their own punts and it was like water dodgems. Even the...More

I'm a local, and on my days off in the summer I love nothing more than a stroll down the backs, or sitting on the rivers edge with a book, watching the swans and punts drift by (it's a good place to nurse a beer...More

Parking in Cambridge is a pain and expensive. At time of writing nearly £28 per day. There is parking on the Backs but this is restricted. Best thing to do is to take one of the Park and Ride services. The closest is... More
