The views of the neatly manicured university grounds and the famous architecture and chapels are fabulous from the "backs", and if you can avoid the crowds like we did (we travelled in January) then this can equally be a peaceful and romantic place for a...More

It takes back into past history of this beautiful historical city which has got a lot of culture behind it. Seeing the backs through the river is a must.

If you park along The Backs and walk over one of the bridges or go through one of the Colleges. Magical and usually free. The view of Kings College is spectacular.

Visit the backs, rather than come up from the Railway Station to the Marketplace. This will give you not only an excellent walk through a more serene and beautiful nature-like setting, but allow you to see "the Backs" of the colleges along the River Cam....More

This walk gives visitors a chance to look at the many colleges along the way, however, it isn't possible to enter the grounds, so the historical buildings can only be viewed from afar.

The wind was chilly and the leaves were falling on our walk round this historic feature of Cambridge. There were plenty of queuing for a punt ride and loads of people on the bridges taking pictures of them. All very picturesque ...

A horrible wet day but I was determined to take a punt trip along the Backs. A very informative commentary by the student punter made it a very interesting trip. So much history there just for the taking.

Rather than starting your visit from the urban railway station side of Cambridge, the Backs gives a different and more rural view, running along the River Cam with bridges across to the different colleges. It is easy to stroll in this almost-rural area in the...More

Parking in Cambridge is a pain and expensive. At time of writing nearly £28 per day. There is parking on the Backs but this is restricted. Best thing to do is to take one of the Park and Ride services. The closest is... More
