Overview
More
This reserve overlooks the beautiful St Michael's Mount and boasts Cornwall's largest reedbed. More than 250 bird, 500 plant, 500 insect and 18 mammal species have been recorded here and bitterns are now regular winter visitors. In some years starlings roost here from October-December, their spectacular aerial acrobatics over the reedbeds are a sight worth seeing.

Because you are not allowed into the Nature Reserve you have to view from the road above. Great if using binoculars or a good long distance lens but otherwise it is hard to spot the birds.

Excellent for birdwatching or just a walk. Can be very muddy for much of the year so boots needed. Surprisingly large; you could pass it on the main road almost without noticing. Alight from bus the stop before Marazion from Penzance.

For an RSPB reserve it is quite small and has no facilities other than a public footpath. However that doesn't mean it's not worth visiting. For the birder it has an outstanding record from breeding Cetti's Warblers to wintering Bitterns and Firecrests, and then there's...More
