The paddle steamer Kingswear Castle is the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in operation in the UK today. She was built in 1924 at Philip & Son of Dartmouth. The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society spent 15 years fully restoring her to her former glory offering river trips on the Medway from 1985. In late 2012, she returned to the home waters of the River Dart after an absence of 47 years.

Whilst we were in Dartmouth for the day we decided to have a river trip, we had the choice of a conventional diesel powered river trip boat or the last remaining coal fired Paddle Steamer left in the UK today. We decided on the Paddle...More

We were fortunate to have reasonable weather for the steam train, foot ferry and paddle steamer trip, not quite a "Round Robin" so a bit complicated to book on their web site - as we're locals, we booked our trip in person at the booking...More

This boat should advertise itself as a relaxation service it made my normally hyperactive 2 year old fall into a deep sleep after ten minutes and to be honest me and my wife nearly did the same towards the end but don't take that as...More

I wanted to do the Round Robin trip including the paddle steamer Kingswear Castle between Totnes and Dartmouth, but because the tides restrict the times which that boat can reach Totnes, and because their website is very complicated, I settled for the river cruise from...More

We enjoyed our cruise in the River Dart from Dartmouth with our 8 year old grandson. The historic boat was well restored and the commentator pointed out various possibilities nuts of interest along the way. The weather was perfect and we would recommend this cruise...More

Dear janetlittlebaby! You do not usually need to book in advance for the paddle steamer but we suggest you do arrive in reasonable time to purchase your ticket as the publicised departure times are very accurate. If you are... More
