Jerry provided a real in-depth talk which covered the history of the Synagogue, its location in the centre of Plymouth and the story of the Jewish community in the city. He is a great communicator, full of passion and humour. The building has a beautiful interior with a feeling of calm and peace. I came away from the visit with... More

Thankyou for your review, I am pleased you enjoyed your visit and left with a greater understanding, I like so many people when I came here for the first time asked the question "why are the Jewish traditions different from ours?" What I should have asked is "why are our traditions different from the Jewish" After all on opening my... More

Twelve of us visited the Synagogue with our local U3A group. We were treated to refreshments when we arrived and given an overview of the history of this synagogue which we were told is the oldest Ashkenasi Synagogue in use in the English speaking world. We were then given a tour of our he Synagogue itself by our guide Jerry... More

My visit was far more than I could ever have imagined, Jerry our guide was full of information and fun, yet done with respect. I came away from the tour feeling very enlightened. I knew virtually nothing of the Jewish faith when I entered and now feel I want to learn more, a truly enjoyable visit and I feel sure... More

Thankyou for the review and I am glad you enjoyed your visit. It is a huge topic to convey in just a short time and with almost 300 years of history woven around the tour most visitors come back for a second visit to grasp a fuller understanding. I look forward to seeing you again at sometime in the future... More

This afternoon went on a history walk and visited the oldest Ashkenazi Synagogue still in use. A really beautiful building and jerry Sibley our guide was extremely knowledgable. I did not know that there were so many Jews in Plymouth pre WW2 and why they left. I learnt that Mrs Simpson's grandfather had paid for the balcony extension and for... More

I went with friends to visit this beautiful little Synagogue and we had the most enlightening and riviting history lesson that I can remember. Jerry our guide was very informed about the history of the Synagogue and Judaism in Plymouth, and also inspirationally enthusiastic about all aspects of local history. The time certainly flew by and we were able to... More

Thankyou for your review and I am glad you enjoyed your visit. 3 hours in one session is not uncommon, however when you book up for your tour you are more than welcome to have it tailor made to suit your groups needs. Highly recommended tour for those wanting to know about this fascinating and beautiful gem in the heart of Plymouth city centre. Jerry, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and very patient when answering questions from our group. Information given is both informative and highly interesting as talk provides historical insight into the formation of Plymouth as well as the building itself.

A brilliantly-led, fascinating guided tour of a unique building. Jerry is an enthousiastic, knowledgeable and generous guide. Our visit focussed on the history of the building (history of Plymouth) and an introduction to Judaism. Perfect for children, very engaging.

We came for an educational trip and were blown away by the knowledge and understanding the host managed to impart. The building itself is stunning, so much history and meaning...and so interesting!
