Overview
More
A centrepiece on Plymouth's Hoe, Smeaton's Tower is one of the city's most recognisable and well-loved landmarks. The lighthouse was originally built out on the notorious Eddystone Reef in 1759. It was taken down in the early 1880s and approximately two thirds of its structure moved stone by stone to its current resting place. Now standing at 72 feet high, it offers brilliant views of Plymouth Sound and beyond. Visitors can climb to the top courtesy of a series of stairs and some of the original 18th century ladders.

Took a group of students here and it was an exciting attraction for them to see. They enjoyed the views and the history of the place. It was also a great photo opportunity (very 'Plymouth') and allowed for a nice place to picnic on the...More

Well, Smeaton's Tower offers nothing but a nice view. On a sunny spring/summer day it is a most pleasing place to be as you can even have some time to chill on the green grass. You can also enter the tower and learn more about...More

Smeaton's Tower was a major step forward in lighthouse design and the most notable of the Eddystone Lighthouses. Perfect for a clear day, and most likely still very good on a wet one. Climb the stairs and check the rooms as you go to the...More

Lovely place - you can see from a long way away and a real landmark. I love seeing it on the Plymouth signs. We didn't go up this time. Care if you do, very steep especially for young or elderly. Very beautiful.

If you are going to visit anything in Plymouth then make a visit to Smeaton's Tower it! What is it? Smeaton's Tower is one of the old Eddystone lighthouses (it was in service between 1759 & 1882), was replaced in 1882 and the plan was...More

They seem to be trying to make something of the various "rooms" you go through when going up Smeaton's Tower, but frankly I don't think many people will be distracted from the climb to the top. I'm not good with heights and I did find...More

I love going to Lighthouses. There are some fantastic views from the top of Smeaton's Tower. (Was also a Bride and Groom having some wedding photos taken up there when I was there). Great location.

This is well worth the visit if only to sample the fantastic views from the top. A nice cheap attraction even though it doesn't last long but I got some great photos from up the top.
