The Foxtor mire allegedly was the inspiration behind Conan-Doyle's 'Grimpen Mire' in 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', and you can see why. It is one of several bad bogs on Dartmoor, although the bog is definitely not as bad as is made out in the book. I still wouldn't recommend crossing it though!
