Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

We live about 15 miles away and regularly visit Burrator for a walk or cycle here. Pick a good day and take a stroll around either clockwise or anticlockwise. It's about 3.3 miles around and there are waterfalls, brooks and rivers to see. There are often two ice cream vans at peak times and parking is free (just don't park... More

Have your own food and drink to sustain you on your walk and look forward to a visit to a local pub on the way home to warm up!!! More enjoyable if reasonably dry.

This area is absolutely beautiful. You can walk around the reservoir or up on the moors. There is easy parking and suitable walk and routes to follow, even an ice cream van for the kids (and adults!)

Whether you are a walker or like a bike ride, this is the place for you. A great walk around the reservoir, plenty of places to walk the dogs and the children. Fairly flat and not too taxing. Sometimes there is an ice cream van there and the toilets have been refurbished, so no excuses not to visit. It is... More

NIce tranquil spot in the vicinity of Plymouth. The path running around the reservoir makes a nice diversion for cyclists passing by (or hikers). Just consider that in winter months the air surrounding the reservoir can be a bit more chilly and humid than the surrounding.
