This wasn't on our to-do list but so glad we found out about the Russell-Cotes House. This is such a stunning house and gardens and has equally stunning views. The story of the Russell-Cotes family is so interesting and their collection spectacular. It's so great to see original period features throughout the house and art collected from across the globe.... More

Walking the cliff area on a windy cold day, we "happened by" this house and gardens, and all I can say, we were stunned! by the sheer beauty of the contents of this very imposing and very unusual house, looking like it belonged to some old movie set. Words are not adequate to describe the huge collection of items paintings,... More

This is the former home of two wealthy collectors. The house and contents were bequeathed to Bournemouth by the owners who had been hoteliers. This is well worth a visit to see a Victorian/Edwardian architecture and the house packed full of paintings and artefacts. This is an unforgettable place full of so many works of art.....not a restful home. There is a... More

This was my first visit to the Russell-Cotes Museum since its recent refurbishment. A new entrance on the sea side had been built, making it much safer that the old one on the town side and this brought the visitor in at the servants' level, instead of ground level. The property was built specially for the owners and they moved... More

How can 12 people say this is terrible ? What a beautiful place this is, £6 to get in, what a snip, one has to watch the film when you arrive to fully understand the family history as this explains everything about the travels they both made together. Good quality good for sale in the shop when you enter and... More

Beautiful house and art gallery. Contains wonderful Pre-Raphaelite paintings, sumptuous decor, Arts and Crafts stained glass and a Moorish alcove. Staff very welcoming and go out of their way to be helpful.

Walked to the East Cliff and saw this beautiful house and although we've holidayed in Bournemouth many times, hadn't noticed this building before. So glad we visited, its a fascinating building and an amazing, haunting story about Merton Russell Cotes and his wife Annie. We enjoyed a couple of hours inside the house trying to take in all the quirky,... More
