This cliffs were damaged with a landslide and so was the railway so is currently out of use and is all fenced off

I was talking to some local who said it was under discussion as to if it would be reopening after being closed following landslide. There was no activilty there when I visited, just lots of safety barriers

Such a shame that this Edwardian masterpiece and piece of history was destroyed and needs renovating, but they are aiming to get it back in 2018

This costs £1,50 single journey and dogs are allowed on free. Its runs 10am to 4pm in the winter and takes about 2-3 minutes, Very useful to avoid the steep walk to the beach. Worth a go and very quaint and old fashioned.

Three of us saved a short journey of walking down hill to the pier by taking the 'cliff lift'. The weather was fine (although it was December) however the price for three was £4.50 - considered a bit expensive. The views during the short journey...More

Always walk down the Zig Zag path or sloping pathway to beach and pier while staying on Westcliff but on return took the easy option with Cliff Lift. Always a friendly attendant to have a chat with and to lock and open the safety dors.

Opened in 1908 is this funicular railway that runs from the beachfront to the clifftop hotels. The railway had a total renovation in the 1990's. A great sight from Bournemouth Pier. Double car operation that hold up to 12 people in each car. Normally closed...More
