This small museum tells the story of Purbeck stone from both the geological and personal viewpoints. There is a 20 minute video as well. Entrance free - voluntary donations accepted! Just off the main road with its own car park it is worth a look.

Tiny little museum found behind Langton Matravers Church. We enjoyed a chat with the volunteer at the door, then explored the exhibits. The mine cart display is a little gem! It's always interesting to find out about the social history of an area. The museum...More

I was unlucky as it had closed for the season a few days before my visit. However judging by the items on display outside, this is certain to be of interest and next year I shall come over from Bournemouth specially.

Enthusiastic volunteers run this museum. The introductory film is particularly good. Many of the volunteers have personal experience of the local mining industry.

The video is a good introduction, and the rest of the museum has a fascinating display of pictures and items from the days when quarrying was a local industry. The very helpful and friendly curator belongs to one of the families involved in the industry,...More

A 20-minute video told us all about the work mining stone in the region, and then we were able to go round and look at examples of the different things we had been shown. It was a very small museum but well-laid-out and very interesting.
