We all loved using the train. Some breathtaking views at the top. I wouldn't recommend to people who are scared of heights.

Not really necessary as you can't really capture any views or anything you wouldn't get from walking up to the same destination. Would recommend for elderly or families with young children but those whom are fit and able I'd suggest just walking!

If you're pottering around Hastings seafront I highly recommend you venture up the hill, the funicular railway is a lot of fun, beautifully preserved, well maintained and not expensive. Once at the top you'll enjoy stunning panoramic views of Hastings as well as access to sizable parkland and the historic castle remains. Well worth a trip.

The top of the cliff railway there is a great view of the old town and you can have a nice meal in the café and look out over the town and people in wheelchairs are also welcome in the café and cliff railway.

West Hill funicular railway is the smaller of the two and is accessed on George Street in Old Hastings. £2.70 adult return ticket. Be aware of opening and closing times off season. Excellent carriages to ride in and you go through a tunnel part of the way. Excellent veiws from cliff top. Access to Smugglers Caves from top.

Unfortunately the East one was closed for essential maintenance which was dissapointing especially as Tourist information centres in Hastings or Eastbourne didn't know about this, However we did manage to do the West Cliff Railway. This one ascends via a tunnel inside the clifffs but the biews are spectacular from the top and there is also a very nice cafe... More

We took the west lift up to the castle as the east lift was closed for maintenance. Our toddler loved the old train and going through the tunnel. It's a lot of fun and free for under 3s.

Went to the top and back with my partner who is disabled, greeted by a friendly knowledgeable member of staff who entertained us until the next car came. A weird Victorian curious way to get to the top of some very steep cliffs. Got to the top and what a view, see the whole seafront . Well worth the price... More
