Best seen at night as part of the ghost walk from the Heritage centre as really spooky in the dark. Visiting the Woman's prison in the day can make you jump but I'm not saying why...

We visited Ypres Tower whilst strolling round Rye. Ypres tower is not the Rye Castle museum which I have found out is a different building and is free. The Ypres tower is £4 to get in, not a lot, but the museum is very twee,...More

Rye is a very interesting and historical town. The dates on the houses go back for centuries, most to around 1400 and 1500 AD. No visit to Rye is complete without visiting Ypres Tower which is accessible in minutes from the town centre. You get...More

Dates to 14th century or so, compact and very well built. It’s more a barracks than a residential castle. To its rear is the River Grebe, the marshes where Mapp and Lucia were swept to the sea.

Funny how a Tower in Rye, England has a name of 'The Ypres Tower' ?. Said to date back to the 14th century as part of fortification to guard the town. Its all that remains of those fortifications. It is in a commanding site overlooking...More

Loved this place. A small museum that allows you to feel some of the exhibits and get a flavour of the past. Don't forget to visit the Womens tower and watch "Mary" getting in trouble with her warder.
