Product selection is good, and prices never knowingly undersold. Also two year guarantee on electronics is good. Terrible store layout, they have obviously had the idea of making you walk around the store by placing the up escalator at the front of the store down right at the bacl. This means even people with mobility problems are forced to walk around the tire store. Don’t even get a stupid idea of asking staff to directional assistance as you’re less than welcome to do so. Staff in the electronic section are less helpful than an Amazon website.

John Lewis in Cheltenham is relatively new to the town. Excellent decor and facilities throughout the store. This naturally flows through to ‘The Place to Eat’ - a one stop restaurant providing good quality food for most tastes. Excellent cakes and pastry selection both tempting and high quality. This is the usual serve yourself and take to central payment area system. Helpful staff with little to no wait for check out.

My Mum lives in London and was delighted when John Lewis opened a branch in Cheltenham. One of my Christmas presents was a very nice shirt that had only 1 problem that I identified as soon as I unwrapped it - too small - so didn't even bother putting it on. On their first day of opening after Christmas we returned to the store, found the correct size and went to the sales counter to exchange the shirt for one that was identical in every way except size. My Mum thought she had the receipt on her but couldn't find it, though she could find the other 10 John Lewis receipts for items she had purchased on the same day. So they point-blank refused the exchange. My Mum had bought the shirt on her JLP card and suggested they look at her transaction history to prove the purchase but they said that wasn't possible as she didn't have the "right" JLP card, which apparently is blue. My Mum was by now getting rather upset - she'a in her 80's - and I asked them why they were being so difficult, given the item we were returning was clearly unworn & still with its original price tag on it and all that we wanted was a like-for-like exchange, not a refund. They explained that it was to prevent fraudulent behaviour. I asked them what they were implying about us and our behaviour to which I received a muttered response. Anyway, they found the receipt and exchanged the item. But no apology whatsoever for how they treated us and made us feel. Reading some other comments confirmed my initial suspicions that the treatment we received was because my Mum and I are people of colour, just relieved I accompanied her to the shop and took the brunt of such an unpleasant experience. Sad as I've lived in Cheltenham for over 20 years and thought things were getting better. Suffice to say I don't plan to visit that shop again and will return to buying my Paul Smith items of clothing direct from the PS website.
