It's a grass dip on the outskirts of Cirencester. There is an information board to explain what it is and free parking very close. It's a pleasant place to sit for a while but is nothing spectacular.

The Amphitheatre is easily reachable either on foot from Cirencester or by car. If you use the latter, park in the Scout Car Park which is very near to the attraction. The Amphitheatre itself shows the physical signs of its existence through the large 10-meter high mounds that encompass it. They are all covered in grass. However, by reading the... More

A short distance away from the town centre this is easily accessible. It's easy to imagine what it might have been like to be a gladiator when standing in the middle of the large space that according to the useful information boards would have allowed 8000 people to watch the events. Need to allow around an hour to explore, perhaps... More

Slightly out. Of town now even following the signs was challenging so found it albeit a little frustrated hence our 'is that it' exclamations upon arrival. History takes many different shapes & forms after all.

If you like Roman history, have good imagination and have got a spare hour in Cirencester, this place is definitely worth a visit although be aware, it is poorly signed from the main roads (with just a couple of signs from the town directing you). There is free parking available, with a short walk to the site. This is a... More

On the outskirts of the town, but with parking if needed, forget thoughts of banks of stone seating. It is rather like a very large grassy basin.Different ,no Ephesus but worth a look.Little more to say unless Roman history is your chosen subject.

This is not the Colosseum. But with just a little imagination and the informative signs, you get a real idea of what it must have been like. Stand in the centre of the bowl land you can see how big it must have been. It's free, too.

Don't expect to see original Roman amphitheatre seating as you can in some such places around the world. The huge hillocks where the seating once was are all covered with grass as is the arena. However, it's a beautiful sight with its lush, well-kept grass, and one can easily imagine the entertainment being laid on here for a crowd in... More

A recommendation from the 'Mother-in-Law', but certainly one i'm glad we took up! If you didn't know what you were looking at Cirencester Amphitheatre is a little difficult to work out, but once you know, simples! Impressive man-made banks - now grassed over. Free entry - so a good free day out! Car park next to the obelisk is a... More
