Historically Painswick Rococo Garden is very important, as it is the sole complete survivor from the brief Rococo period (1720 – 1760). These gardens differ from the more traditional 19th and 20th century designs, as they were mini landscapes designed almost as theatrical sets for the home owner to entertain his guests with lavish garden parties. One thing they were not were great flower gardens. At Painswick, romantic follies combine with long vistas, informal plantings, and a large kitchen garden to create a relaxing environment for todays visitor to appreciate how our forefathers lived and to understand how gardens have changed over the centuries.

Our visit was on a cloudy day which was a bit of a dampener for the photography, but the visit was both fascinating and enjoyable. After a tasty light lunch in the cafe, we walked the gardens, a mix of follies and floral delights, that has been well restored to what was obviously a beautiful location when created. Very interesting... More

Lovely place even in early spring and should definitely be a part of your trip to Painswick. But beware, it is not your typical English flower garden.

The Rococo Garden is large with a nice Cafe and Coffee Shop . Great views and a good Maze for the Children . I think we went a little too early , Easter Weekend , for the Flowers . So would recommend June time .

Very much enjoyed our visit. Would just say if you want to get the most out of your time at this gardens you need to be able to do quite a bit of up and down..in particular on the woodland walks. Beautifully kept and a really good cafe serving a very nice lunch.

Nestled into a small valley, this garden is like a world apart - peaceful and beautiful. Well worth a visit if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.

If you've looked at the photos, you've probably seen all there is to see. A couple of nice follies. I missed the snowdrops and the daffodils and whilst there were some nice bluebells they were not masses and not really worth the steep climb to reach them. It may look better in the summer but in March it wasn't worth... More

Enjoyed a lovely couple of hours wandering around the Rococo gardens looking at the spring flowers starting to come out, especially the bluebells. I did visit a few years ago . to attend a wedding but didn't get an opportunity to explore the garden. Took the opportunity to look at all the plants for sale which are very reasonably priced.... Managed to walk through these gardens in spring and they were starting to open up in full colour. Rococo style buildings and structures are scattered around the gardens and give you a place to sit and soak in the quiet country atmosphere, as well as tell a little about the designer and owner. The grounds are on hilly land and... More
