Surprised

We didn't know anything about this place, just chanced upon it.. interesting! Lots to do and see, places to eat and great views if it's not raining or foggy.

Check carefully for opening days or you may be disappointed. It's a shame the fort isn't open more. There is a great deal of history and educational stuff going on inside the fort but there is also a great walk around the moat in all weathers. There is plenty of other stuff to do in the area if you do... More

We were given English Heritage membership for Xmas & waited more than 2 months for our membership cards etc despite ringing them at least twice. We decided to make a special trip to Fort Brockhurst today, being the second Saturday of the month and arrived at about 11.30am only to find that it wasn't open!! Phoned the customer service number... More

Back in the 19th Century, Britain was very concerned that the French were going to invade England via Portsmouth. To the end of protecting the country a series of brick built, earth filled forts were constructed in a ring around the city, all the way from Gosport and over Portsdown Hill. Fort Brockhurst was designed by William Crossman. It is... More

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area....only problem is that it's only open for a very few days each year, but at least entry is free! Just a shame they couldn't do more with the place. It does seem a waste just having it so unused.

Fort Brockhurst is only open for a few weekends a year ,but is well worth a visit. Hampshire put on a great show of artefacts. One part of the ramparts are still destroyed after an air raid during WW2 and a lot of the barracks are being restored and used by local historic organisations .Part of the line of defences... More

What a great place and we couldn't believe it's free. It was very busy which was nice to see. Just a shame it's not open more often. Well worth a visit and we will definitely return. Nice to see signets in the moat outside also.

Lovely exhibits, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, definitely worth a visit and as it's so vast it doesn't feel crowded.
