Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Portsmouth, a geographical area including south-east Hampshire, Portsea Island and the Isle of Wight.

For centuries this building, the Cathedral of the Sea, has watched, listened and helped the people of Portsmouth navigate the passage of time. It has witnessed war and peace, famous marriages, been bombed and rebuilt and remains a building of greatness and simple enduring beauty. More than this it is a vibrant and lively community set at the heart of the city and diocese of Portsmouth, responding to the call of God to meet people’s needs and equipping the whole diocese to share the love of God in Jesus Christ. ☩

In this cathedral I had a little the feeling it is split up in two parts. It is definitely not the most beautiful cathedral I have seen, still worth a visit though.

We popped in on Sunday morning and we're delighted by the warm and love shown to us by so many of the volunteers. A very quiet and graceful cathedral and is definitely 'a must to visit'. There is much history to see and appreciate, we lit some candles and made our prayers. The priest was very nice to chat to... More

The cathedral is steeped in history, with wonderful architecture and stained glass windows. There are guides available to give tours. We were lucky enough to arrive when the organ practice was on, it gave such an ambience to our visit. A gem in old portsmouth.

Happened to be there when the pipe organist was practicing and later the choir rehearsed. Loved it. One of the Priests told us the original altar area was built in 1180 and the front was built in the 1600's after part of the Church was blown up during the English Civil War. Very interesting visit.

This is a very pretty, small cathedral with some interesting architecture from its early mediaeval days as a seamen's church to its modern life as a cathedral.

Find one of the helpers to explain the history of the church - not an ancient see but a newly promoted cathedral Lots of odd bits of history to explore

I love cathedrals and where ever we visit we try to fit one in and this one was worth it. Lovely place with a very friendly lady on hand to welcome us. Beautiful stained glass windows, plenty of interesting things to see.

This cathedral is like no other I have visited. Built is several periods with the very old and the new part which has been tastefully done to blend in with the old. Fascinating place

I was passing by and popped in on the off-chance I could have a look around - got the absolute bonus of a guided tour, revealing a chequered and fascinating history from 1100 to the present day - Honestly, I could have stayed hours!! Stunning place to visit whether you're alone or with friends and family, there were children around... More
