Yes it's a great piece of history and I'm glad it's still there and they haven't knocked it down for something modern. Yet it's not much to look at, and there are by far some much better parts of history and more better historical ruins...More

Situated in the centre of Southampton I was impressed with the Bargate Close to some of the old City walls this has been cleverly restored Would have loved to go inside! Makes a great meeting point and photo back drop Slight downside - the area...More

Southampton suffered badly from bombing in the war and until recently was rebuild by architects with little skill or taste . It is indeed very lucky that this splendid gate in the old city wall survived and is well worth seeing .

The remains of the gate to the old town, this marks the start of the historic area where you can find remains of the old city walls. A famous landmark for Southampton.

It looks fantastic in postcards and online but in the flesh it's disappointing. Not visually- it's the smell. Stale urine & I actually saw some blood spots near one of the caged areas. It's a real shame buildings like this aren't cleaned as much as...More

On a spot in the city centre where you can't miss it, this building is a nice one. But more interesting than that you can't make it.

It is a nice looking structure. Thats all. Just a gate to walk through whilst shopping in the tatty shops surrounding it. Sad.
