I enjoyed looking around the steamship and learning all the history. I took some fantastic photos of the inner workings of the ship. It's such an amazing feat of engineering it has to be seen to be believed.

We were lucky enough to be invited for a 3 hr cruise down Southampton Water towards the Isle of Wight. The ship is beautifully restored inside and out, and you feel a real connection with the past. You can visit the engine room where you can experience the smell, noise and heat of the engines first hand, or pop up... More

We went on board with the kids to have a quick look round and to get lunch. We stayed a lot longer then anticipated as it was very interesting to wander about a proper vessel and find out about life at sea. The engine room was marvellous to see and as a geek I loved it. The ships engineer was... More

The ship itself is incredibly interesting and you can go down to the engine rooms and talk to the mainly volunteers who maintain the ship. They are very knowledgeable and very welcoming. The particular evening that we spent on board was a theatre evening with an old time musical hall theme and it was fabulous. The theatre event took over... More

The Shieldhall can be hired for private parties - its a splendid venue so long as you remember that the tide will affect the slope of the gangplank !

Fortunate to spend a day on hard this lovely steamship sailing up southampton water. The crew were mainly volunteers and more than happy to share their knowledge. The whistle has to be heard and many other vessels on the water responded to its call. Fabulous experience and if you like steam engines don't miss this great opportunity.

We visited this as part of Southampton's Music in the City event and I'm ashamed to say that as a lifelong Sotonian I had NO IDEA it was here! I'm not sure of it's history but I didn't know it has been restored over the years by a team of volunteers, who work and fund raise tirelessly to keep it... More

Train to Poole, Shieldhall day out to the bay for Air Tattoo. Lovely day out. Great place for viewing and chat with the crew who are in love with this old ship. Visit the bridge and engine room. And I'm not a steam geek, but this is a beautifully kept ship. Very relaxing day out.

SS Sheildhall was docked in Poole harbour for a couple of days and having arrived with a deflated feeling of what Poole had to offer I thought I would have a quick wander around the ship to kill time. I`m glad I did, the ole fellas running the show are really friendly and knowledgeable given they are all volunteers its... More
