What a great treat this was. to start with it's FREE, then the exhibits change, though some parts stay, it's an education in itself from the building, it's uses over the ages and dress up for the kids and not so young...if you dare.

Well preserved and well done small exhibit with various bits and bobs of the gates history. Nice view form the roof top, and nice area at the Army grounds next store

A small museum at the top of Winchester high street, well worth a visit on a sunny day as you could see the city from the top floor. There are some displays of everyday items from the olden times.

Part of the old castle, the gatehouse is well worth a visit, free to enter, so pop up the old stairs and enter the gatehouse room, yes it is one room but so much history, there is even a children's trail, not so easy even...More

You can visit the museum for free but it is not so interesting to see the written explanations about the exhibition. It is better to ask the caretaker, he knows a lot about the city history. You can even go to the roof top bit...More

The Westgate to the city is a monument in its own right and houses a museum. Located on the highstreet the city gate dates back to the 12th century.

A fab experience after climbing the hill then steps to the museum atop the gate. Very interesting info and exhibits.

Very interesting to take yourself back to the days of long ago to try and image what the town of Winchester was like a few hundred years ago. Thank goodness some of the old building or part there of remain. good to see
