Just around the corner from our barely adequate hotel, we stumbled upon this excellent little local. Eclectic clientele, live music, superb ale. And apparently a relatively recent rescue from failing pub status by the engaging landlady. Perfection.

Unpretentious and lively. Quirky but well run. The high class music acts in the cellar are well worth checking out, but there are a plethora of other clubs and groups. Or just enjoy fine ales and a traditional, convivial and female-friendly ambience. Nice garden too.

I last was in the Hyde Tavern twenty years ago.
I'm delighted that it hasn't been 'improved'. The place has immense character. Beer is top class, obviously well looked after and turns over.
