It is clear major cash and effort has gone into this venue but while it is much more visitor friendly I felt some of the old atmosphere has been lost. I do worry that this wonderful venue does not get the visitor numbers it should;when I try to explain to overseas visitors that what they should be going to see... More

Excellent day out good for kids and adults. But what ever you do don't miss the tour of the ropey. You have to book a time slot but our guide made it a tour to remember. She was funny and knowledgeable with a down to earth brash way that was refreshing. See exactly how rope is made was interesting and... More

We visited on the recommendation of various friends and agree with everything they said, this is a brilliant and informative day out I am just so pleased that the site has been maintained. It is great to know that local universities also use the site alongside visitors, thereby keeping the place alive. Having said that the site is enormous, not... More

An exceptional tourist attraction. The history of the dockyard illustrated in a very informative way. All the guides were knowledgeable and made each tour interesting, especially the guide in the Ropery....very scary! Being able to explore two ships and a sub was a highlight. We left the Heart of Oaks exhibition to the last and we were not disappointed. Brilliant.... More

This was the second time we had visited Chatham Historic Dockyard - and several areas have changed in the interval. The Ropery was an excellent presentation - the very convincing guide was in character the whole time which made an interesting visit. The Steam, Steel and Submarines display in the next-door building showed the history of the dockyard over the... More

This is such a great place to visit.any age.midwife tour brilliant. Ropery tour ok. So much to see. And a ticket for a repeat visit to. Xx food outlet good but should have enough supplies as lots of pre booked coaches and no bread or jacket potatoes after 1pm .

Why had I taken so long before visiting this unique venue? Three historic ships of different eras. HMS Cavalier in the same dock where HMS Victory was built. So much naval history in authentic surroundings where ships have been built since the 17th century. Slips, warehouses, rope manufacture, cranes and exhibitions within a historic and totally authentic surrounding. Utterly brilliant!

I was so surprised how much there was to do here, good places to eat, so much to see and do and they hold some fantastic events. Highlight for me was watching the spitfire fly by at "salute the 40's"
