About
The Lake District National Park is a national treasure and World Heritage Site. It boasts England's largest lake, Windermere, and its highest peak, Scafell Pike. One of the best ways to discover this unique living, cultural landscape, is by going on a Lake District National Park guided walk. Join one of our local volunteer leaders to explore the hills, step into ancient caves, stare up at wild waterfalls, wander around historical houses, gaze across vast valleys and of course look across the beautiful lakes that give this special place its name. There are walks suitable for most abilities, including a couple of our wheelchair and buggy accessible ‘Miles without Stiles’ routes. Walks are free to book, with the option of donating to the Lake District Foundation who support projects across the National Park. All of our guided walks are led by passionate volunteers who love nothing more than to share their love of the Lake District with you.

- Gerold B1 contributionStaveley, Kentmere walkDelightful walk with National Park guides and volunteers. Weather changed frequently and sudden blue sky allowed amazing views. Personal highlight: Elf Howe and view to the Kent estuary. Natural beauty and industrial history of the Lakes.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- monetfan4322 contributionsWonderful free guided walkHighly recommend this, it was a fantastic experience. The guided walks are free and led by lovely volunteers. We set off from Staveley (easily reached by park/train/bus) to walk in the Kentmere valley. Along the way we had short stops to get more information about the history of the valley and different landmarks and features. The volunteers kept the group in very good spirits and there was a lovely atmosphere. I really loved the walk and I would come to the Lakes again specifically to go on another one of these! It is a very safe and relaxing way to explore the Lakes.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 15, 2023

- Megg K1 contributionFabulously Friendly and Informative way to get to know the Lakes through local eyes. Unbelievable value.Every park in the world should have walks like these. Guides and local participants shared their knowledge and love of the place they call home. Walking through country is also a lovely way to meet other solo travellers. Walk was a perfect length. Not too hard underfoot. Helped no doubt by glorious weather. I hope to return one day and do more of these walks. Thanks for a truly fabulous day! Thanks for sharing the rainbow in Kentmere! With limited time the short walk to high dam with Sue and Keith as our guides was an awesome end to our UK trip. Autumn leaves and babbling brooks made this experience with nature something special. The walk was free and the information shared by our guides made the walk all that much more enjoyable.

This is our first time to join the guided walk in UK. Grasmere is a wonderful place with beautiful nature scenery. Sue and Anna are the professional guides who look after everyone in the group with cares. It is unlucky we do not have opportunity to join another walk during our stay. We are please introduce anyone who love nature, our earth and hiking to join the guided walks arranged by Lake District National Park.😊😊 from Harvey & Sellina

We started with the Copper Mills and Miners walk from Coniston. I have been coming to The Lake District for decades and this was my first guided walk. We wanted to learn a little more about this beautiful village and its history. Our leaders were John and Keith, both incredibly knowledgeable and thoroughly good company. They went at the pace comfortable by all in the group, stopping for informative chats, photos etc. So glad we went along with them and looking forward to more guided walks in the future. Would thoroughly recommend it.

I did a magnificent walk called Caves, Falls and Fells - Official Lake District Guided Walk, starting at
Tilberthwaite Quarry Park, near Coniston. I didn’t have a car so I walked to the starting point from Coniston and it takes about an hour. Ask locals for directions as it’s not well sign posted to get to the starting point by foot. Once you find the walking path it’s a lovely walk to the starting point. Once I arrived at the meeting point I was greeted by guides John, Elaine and Bob who were all lovely. They made me feel very welcome. The walk took five hours and was beautiful, I saw some lovely countryside including caves and waterfalls. We sat down and had our packed lunch we brought ourselves, this was lovely to sit on a rock and soak up the beauty including watching the ewes and lambs stroll by. This walk is definitely worth it, one I won’t forget and the guides made it very entertaining along the way. Enjoy!

These walks are a great way to enjoy all that the Lakes have to offer. Experienced, friendly guides not only show you the way, they have so much local knowledge which they share making your day even better.
The pace was leisurely, with sufficient stops on the way to suit walkers of all ages. Our hike to Arthur’s Pike had something for everyone , great views of Ullswater and the surrounding peaks and of course the perfect spot to stop for lunch.
Many thanks to Rick, his team and our fellow walkers. Give it a go, you won’t regret it.

Hi there, we run more than 200 guided walks right across the Lake District from Easter to end of October. All our walks can be found on our website and all are bookable. There are plenty to choose from in September, just use the search button and select the month you want to view.

I'd like to ask a question please - sorry it's a bit uncomfortable but here goes. We are an interracial family and although we want to visit the Lake District. I went there a few years ago and saw no ethnicity at all. My husband (black) is not bothered about racism if it occurs but our little girl is worried and we don't want her subjected to any nastiness. Does anyone think we may encounter problems? Thank you.

I think you're over thinking the whole situation- we have many cultures/races n the U.K. too.

Visiting in February - have a spare week - would love to visit the lake district to see scenery - is Feb a good month? or too cold - also any advice on where to base ourselves - we won't be driving so hoping to take tours / bikes - any recommendations would be appreciated - Cheers

I've only been once but I'd imagine any month is a good month. It's a beautiful place and very scenic. Cumbria would probably be a good destination, as things are a little bit more accessible there. Perhaps Centre Parcs would be appropriate? There's a Centre Parcs located in Cumbria 'Whinfell Forest'
